Brown Brothers is one of Australia’s most beloved, innovative, and enduring family wine producers — a winery with roots stretching back to 1889, when John Francis Brown planted the first vines at Milawa in north-eastern Victoria. More than 135 years later, the Brown family remains at the helm, producing wines of genuine quality, character, and variety from their King Valley vineyards and cool-climate Tasmanian sites — and continuing to pioneer new varieties, new styles, and new approaches to winemaking that have kept the brand at the forefront of Australian wine for over a century.

History & Heritage

The Brown Brothers story begins in the King Valley of north-eastern Victoria, where John Francis Brown established the family’s first vineyard at Milawa in 1889. The winery grew steadily through the early decades of the 20th century, but it was under the stewardship of subsequent generations of the Brown family that the brand truly came into its own — developing a reputation for innovation, variety experimentation, and a willingness to plant and champion grape varieties that no other Australian producer had dared to try. Brown Brothers was among the first Australian wineries to plant Italian varieties in the King Valley — a decision that helped establish the region as Australia’s premier destination for Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, and other Italian-inspired styles — and has continued to push the boundaries of Australian winemaking ever since.

The Regions

King Valley, Victoria — The King Valley is one of Victoria’s most distinctive and exciting wine regions — a long, narrow valley in the foothills of the Victorian Alps, approximately 250 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, whose diverse microclimates — from warm valley floors to cool alpine slopes at elevations of up to 900 metres — allow Brown Brothers to produce an extraordinary range of wine styles from a single region. The valley’s Mediterranean-style summers and cool nights preserve natural acidity and develop intense fruit flavours, making it ideally suited to the Italian varieties — Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, Moscato — that have become the region’s signature. The King Valley’s Italian heritage — many of the valley’s early settlers were Italian immigrants who brought their viticultural knowledge and love of Italian varieties with them — gives the region a distinctive character and identity that is unlike any other Australian wine region.

Tasmania — Brown Brothers sources fruit from Tasmania’s East Coast and Tamar Valley for the premium Patricia range — expressions of the finest cool-climate varieties that showcase the extraordinary potential of Australia’s southernmost wine-producing state. Tasmania’s maritime climate, pristine growing conditions, and extended growing season produce wines of exceptional elegance, natural acidity, and aromatic complexity that are among the finest produced anywhere in Australia.

Our Range

Patricia Chardonnay — Tasmania — The pinnacle of the Brown Brothers range — a premium Tasmanian Chardonnay sourced from handpicked fruit on the East Coast and Tamar Valley, whole bunch pressed and barrel fermented in French oak. Vibrant straw with stone fruits, citrus, and cashew on the nose. Elegant and refined on the palate with citrus finesse, mineral notes, and sensational complexity from French oak maturation. Outstanding with seafood, roast chicken, and soft-rind cheeses.

Premium Cuvée NV — King Valley — A classic Australian sparkling wine of genuine quality and finesse, crafted from Pinot Noir (56%), Chardonnay (29%), and Pinot Meunier (15%), with three years on yeast lees for complexity and a creamy, biscuity character. Pale green-gold with persistent fine bubbles. Pear and apple aromatics with a soft, creamy mouthfeel and a refreshing green apple and lemon citrus finish. Outstanding with oysters, prawns, and soft cheeses.

Prosecco NV — King Valley — Brown Brothers’ flagship Prosecco — a vibrant, fruit-driven sparkling wine crafted from Italian Prosecco grapes in Australia’s premier cool-climate region. Pale straw with persistent fine bubbles. Green apple, pear, and white peach with elderflower and acacia blossom. Crisp and refreshing with stone fruit, green apple, and honeydew melon on the palate. Available in 750mL, 200mL piccolo, and 250mL can formats.

Origins Prosecco NV — King Valley — A beautifully crafted Prosecco of delicate character and savoury elegance. Pale straw with subtle green hues, a delicate nose of apple and pear, and a beautiful savoury edge that sets it apart from the standard Prosecco style. Made to drink now while light and fresh.

Prosecco Brut Reserve — King Valley — The premium Prosecco expression from Brown Brothers — a Brut Reserve of greater depth and complexity than the standard Prosecco, crafted from the finest King Valley fruit.

Prosecco Mid Strength NV — All the vibrant apple and citrus character of the classic Prosecco at just 7% ABV — only 4 standard drinks per 750mL bottle. Crisp, refreshing, and delicate.

Moscato NV — King Valley — One of Australia’s most popular and beloved sweet sparkling wines — a vibrant, effervescent Moscato of musk, citrus, and freshly pressed grape aromatics with a lively sherbet flavour and crisp, refreshing finish. At just 5.3% ABV, it is the perfect wine for warm-weather occasions and light desserts.

Moscato Lush Lychee NV — A limited edition Moscato infused with natural lychee — made from Muscat of Alexandria grapes and bottled soon after fermentation to preserve its vibrant tropical character. Ripe lychee and spicy tropical aromas with hints of rose petal and subtle musk. Sweet lychee notes balanced by refreshing acidity.

Cienna NV — North West Victoria — One of the most original and distinctive wines in the Brown Brothers range — Cienna is a uniquely Australian variety, a cross between Sumoll and Cabernet Sauvignon developed by CSIRO in 1972 and championed by Brown Brothers as a vibrant, low-alcohol red of genuine character. Vibrant ruby red with cherry, blackcurrant, plum, and floral aromas. Rich and juicy with bright summer berries, low tannin, and a smooth, slightly fizzy finish. Best served chilled.

Orange Muscat & Flora — Victoria — A luscious late-harvest dessert wine of extraordinary character, blending 79% Orange Muscat and 21% Flora, harvested at the Mystic Park vineyard at Baumé 15.0–16.0. Vibrant golden hue with lemon, honey, spice, and musk on the nose. Fresh and tangy on the palate with honey, musk, and spice and a bright, zesty finish. 375mL.

Sparkling Spritzes — Brown Brothers’ innovative spritz range brings the Italian aperitivo tradition to the King Valley with three vibrant expressions: Yuzu Lemon Prosecco Spritz (exotic yuzu citrus and zesty lemon with Prosecco, 8.5% ABV), Orange Prosecco Spritz (vibrant blood orange and aromatic bitters with classic Prosecco pear, 8.5% ABV), and Passionfruit Vanilla & Lime Spritz (vibrant tropical passionfruit, vanilla, and lime). All are best served over ice in a large wine glass.

The Zero Range — Pioneering Alcohol-Free Wine

Brown Brothers has been at the forefront of the alcohol-free wine movement in Australia, producing a comprehensive range of Zero wines (0.5% ABV) that deliver genuine varietal character and flavour without the alcohol. The Zero range includes Prosecco Zero (bright green apple), Moscato Zero (vibrant musk, citrus, and sherbet), Moscato Rosé Zero (rose petal and red berry with fruity spritz), Pinot Grigio Zero (crisp pear and peach with savoury finish), Dry Rosé Zero (watermelon, ruby grapefruit, and citrus), and Sauvignon Blanc Zero (melon, passionfruit, and fresh-cut grass). All Zero wines are available in 750mL bottles, with Pinot Grigio Zero, Dry Rosé Zero, and Sauvignon Blanc Zero also available in convenient 200mL piccolo format.

How to Enjoy Brown Brothers Wines

The Prosecco, Moscato, and Zero range are best served well chilled at 6–8°C — outstanding as aperitifs, with light seafood, Asian cuisine, and fresh fruit desserts. The Cienna is best served lightly chilled at 12–14°C. The Classic Pinot Grigio and Dry Rosé are best at 8–10°C with light Mediterranean dishes. The Classic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are best at 10–12°C and 14–16°C respectively. The Patricia Chardonnay is best at 10–12°C and rewards decanting for 15 minutes — outstanding with premium seafood and roast chicken.
