Elegant high couture and cosmopolitan cityscapes were the inspirations that led to Brown Brothers Classic Chardonnay — a stylish white wine from the Banksdale vineyard in the King Valley of north-east Victoria, crisp and refreshing with vibrant stone fruit, balanced oak, and a long, satisfying finish. Just over half of this wine was fermented and aged for five months in French oak, adding nutty complexity to the fresh honeydew melon and citrus character of the cool climate fruit. Enjoy now or cellar confidently for up to four to five years from vintage.

Appearance

Clean straw with a youthful green hue — the bright, elegant colour of a cool climate King Valley Chardonnay from the 2025 vintage, with the freshness and precision that the Banksdale vineyard’s long ripening season delivers.

Aroma

Lovely aromas of stone fruit and citrus — the classic cool climate Chardonnay aromatic profile in fresh, expressive form, with the natural acidity and purity that the King Valley’s cool growing conditions consistently preserve.

Palate

Tight and crisp with fresh honeydew melon flavours and a long, complex finish — the balanced oak handling adding interesting nutty characters to the vibrant stone fruit and citrus core. Just over half fermented and aged for five months in French oak, with a small percentage new, for a Chardonnay of genuine depth and stylish restraint.

Pairs With

Pan-fried chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto — or a mild soft rind cheese such as brie or camembert. The crisp acidity, stone fruit character, and balanced oak make this a versatile and elegant partner at the table.

Winemaking Notes

Fruit sourced from the Banksdale vineyard in the King Valley of north-east Victoria, where cool climate growing conditions lead to a long ripening season that retains high levels of natural acidity. Just over half of the wine was fermented and aged for five months in French oak, of which a small percentage was new, with the remainder handled in stainless steel to preserve freshness and fruit purity. 12% ABV.

Producer History

Brown Brothers is one of Australia’s most recognised and beloved family wine producers, established in 1889 by John Francis Brown in Milawa, in the foothills of the Victorian Alps. Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, the Brown family has spent more than 130 years pioneering varieties and regions that others overlooked — most notably the King Valley, where the cool alpine climate creates ideal conditions for elegant, high-acidity white wines of genuine finesse. The Banksdale vineyard is one of the jewels of the King Valley — a cool climate site where the long ripening season and natural acidity produce Chardonnay of the restraint, precision, and stylish complexity that Brown Brothers has championed for generations.
