Collection: Chablis White Wine – Burgundy, France

Discover Premium Chablis White Wine

Explore our exceptional collection of Chablis wines, the purest expression of Chardonnay from one of France's most celebrated white wine appellations. Located in the northernmost reaches of Burgundy, Chablis produces elegant, mineral-driven wines of remarkable precision and finesse, distinguished by their steely character, vibrant acidity, and distinctive flinty minerality.

The Chablis Region – Burgundy's Northern Jewel

Chablis is situated in the Yonne department of northern Burgundy, approximately 180 kilometres southeast of Paris. Geographically and stylistically distinct from the rest of Burgundy, Chablis sits closer to Champagne than to the Côte d'Or, resulting in a cooler, more continental climate that profoundly influences the wine's character.

The region's cool climate features cold winters, late springs with frost risk, and moderate summers. This northern location means Chardonnay grapes ripen slowly, developing intense aromatics and preserving the high natural acidity that defines classic Chablis. The extended growing season allows complex flavour development whilst maintaining the wine's signature freshness and tension.

Kimmeridgian Soil – The Heart of Chablis Terroir

Chablis's defining characteristic is its ancient Kimmeridgian limestone soil, formed during the Jurassic period over 150 million years ago. This unique soil type, rich in fossilised oyster shells and marine deposits, imparts the distinctive flinty, mineral character that makes Chablis instantly recognisable. The chalky, limestone-rich terroir creates wines of exceptional purity, with pronounced minerality, citrus precision, and remarkable ageing potential.

Chablis Classifications

Petit Chablis – Entry-level appellation from vineyards on the outskirts of the region, typically on Portlandian limestone soils. These wines offer fresh, crisp Chardonnay with citrus and green apple notes, bright acidity, and approachable character – perfect for everyday enjoyment.

Chablis (Village Level) – The core appellation representing the classic Chablis style. Wines from Kimmeridgian soils showcase pure Chardonnay fruit with distinctive mineral backbone, citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit, green apple, white flowers, and that signature flinty, almost saline quality. Unoaked or lightly oaked to preserve purity.

Chablis Premier Cru – From 40 designated premier cru vineyards on superior slopes with optimal sun exposure. These wines offer greater complexity, concentration, and structure whilst maintaining Chablis's essential minerality and elegance.

Chablis Grand Cru – The pinnacle, from seven grand cru vineyards on a single southwest-facing slope. These are Burgundy's most prestigious Chardonnay wines outside the Côte d'Or, offering extraordinary depth, complexity, and decades of ageing potential.

Winemaking Style

Traditional Chablis is vinified in stainless steel or neutral oak to preserve the wine's purity and mineral expression. This unoaked or minimally oaked approach allows the terroir to speak clearly, showcasing the Kimmeridgian soil's influence and the variety's natural elegance without the buttery, creamy notes associated with heavily oaked Chardonnay.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairing

Chablis offers aromas of citrus, green apple, white flowers, and wet stones, with that distinctive flinty minerality. On the palate, expect crisp acidity, medium body, and a clean, precise finish. The wine's high acidity and mineral character make it perfect for oysters, seafood, goat's cheese, poultry, and delicate fish dishes.
