Leconfield Shiraz 2017 (Mclaren Vale)
Tasting Notes
The Leconfield Mclaren Vale Shiraz 2017 vintage is a rich full deep scarlet.
Aromas of dense rich full fruit in the pepper/blood plum spectrum. Fine grained French oak has contributed layers of vanilla and cinnamon to complex the fruit.
This is a stylish wine. It has full flavour in which the seamless, silky tannins mould with the concentrated fruit to provide richness, yet it retains a tight, elegant structure.
Food pairing suggestions for the Leconfield Mclaren Vale Shiraz are full flavoured foods like red meats, a classic Sunday roast or vegetarian lasagne.
Cellaring potential of 8-10 years.

Leconfield was established in 1974 by pioneering oenologist Sydney Hamilton who, at 76 years of age, had the dream to produce the classic Australian red wine. Leconfield McLaren Vale Shiraz provides a sibling to the classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, for which the estate is famous, the Coonawarra Merlot and its recent new addition, Cabernet/Merlot.
The inherent fruit vibrancy of the wine comes from our 'Farm' block. Fruit is harvested at night to take advantage of the naturally cool temperatures, then fermented on skins for a week. A portion of the wine was barrel fermented to integrate the fruit and oak and racked several times to aid natural clarification, integrate the oak and to soften and complex the tannin structure. The fruit, sourced fruit from estate vineyards, has been selected to give the depth for which this wine is renown.
Good winter rainfalls provided the moisture in the vineyards for what was to become a dry and warm ripening season. January temperatures were above average. Significant rain that fell on Valentine's Day, provided initial anxiety but ultimately provided a much needed drink for the vines and delayed the harvest to allow flavour ripeness to develop. The result has been lovely, textured wines.
The Leconfield Mclaren Vale Shiraz 2017 vintage was 100% Oak Matured for 16 months with a combination of 21% new French oak, 41% 2 year old French oak, 28% 3 year French oak. Winery Nites
