Tasting Notes
Colour: Dense garnet with excellent depth and vibrancy in the glass.
Nose: Expressive and fruit-driven, with red liquorice and spiced plum at the fore, layered with the characteristic warmth and generosity of old-vine Barossa Shiraz.
Palate: Rich and rounded with intensity of flavour drawn from five distinct Barossa Valley vineyard sites. The fruit is concentrated yet fresh, supported by seamless, velvety tannins that carry the wine to a long, satisfying finish.
Finish: Long and fruit-persistent with fine tannin structure and a warm, spiced close that lingers well beyond the glass.
Blend & Winemaking
The 2024 Marschall is sourced from five Barossa Valley vineyard sites — Ebenezer, Tanunda, Gomersal, Light Pass and Trial Hill — with vine ages ranging from 26 to 56 years. Each site contributes its own textural and aromatic character to the finished blend: the sandy loam soils of Tanunda producing more aromatic, finely structured fruit, while the dense iron-rich soils of Ebenezer deliver concentration and depth.
A range of fermentation techniques were employed, all involving extended skin contact of 15 to 20 days. A cold soak period of up to five days preceded natural warming to initiate fermentation. On completion, the ferments were pressed to a combination of new and seasoned oak hogsheads for malolactic fermentation and barrel maturation. The wine spent 14 months in oak with minimal intervention before natural clarification and bottling without filtration — a commitment to transparency and genuine wine character.
