Yering Station Shiraz Viognier 2023 is a beautifully expressive Yarra Valley red, combining the depth of Shiraz with the aromatic lift and elegance of a small addition of Viognier. Rich dark fruit, floral perfume and savoury spice come together in a wine that balances generous flavour with cool-climate finesse.

Made from 98% Shiraz and 2% Viognier, the wine brings together black cherry, blood plum and red berry fruit with notes of black pepper, rosemary and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied and supple, with fine tannins, subtle oak influence and a lively thread of freshness.

The result is a polished, deeply appealing Shiraz Viognier that offers plenty of character without excessive weight. Its combination of perfume, spice and velvety texture makes it equally enjoyable with food or on its own.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep garnet.

Nose: Black cherry, blood plum, black peppercorn, rosemary and red rose, with a fragrant, savoury lift.

Palate: Medium-bodied and beautifully textured, with red berries, plum, fennel and graphite. Supple tannins and white pepper spice provide balance and complexity.

Finish: Persistent and refined, with lingering fruit, savoury spice and gently structured tannins.

Food Pairing

A lovely match for roast lamb, duck breast, grilled beef or mushroom risotto. The wine's peppery character and supple tannins also work beautifully with herb-roasted vegetables, slow-cooked dishes and chargrilled meats.

Vintage Conditions

The 2023 Yarra Valley vintage followed an unusually wet winter and spring, with a later growing season and challenging vineyard conditions. More settled weather after the new year supported flavour development, while cooler conditions helped retain freshness and natural acidity.

The resulting wine captures the perfume, freshness and measured structure of a cooler Yarra Valley vintage.

Vineyard Background

Sourced from Yering Station vineyards in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. The region's cool-climate conditions encourage fragrant Shiraz with bright fruit, savoury spice and refined tannins.

Winemaking

Shiraz was co-fermented with a small proportion of Viognier, representing 2% of the final blend. This traditional combination adds floral lift and aromatic complexity.

Maturation in French oak barriques, including 18% new oak, contributes subtle structure and spice while allowing the fruit to remain at the forefront.

Cellaring and Serving

Enjoy now for its vibrant fruit and supple texture, or cellar under suitable conditions for further development over the coming years. The wine has ageing potential of approximately 10 years from release.

Serve around 16–18°C. A short period in a decanter can help reveal its floral and savoury aromatics.
