Wild Duck Creek White Duck 2025 is a textural, aromatic white from Heathcote — a four-way Rhône Valley blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, and Viognier, fermented and matured for six months in large 2000L French oak foudre and puncheons on full yeast lees. Honeysuckle, acacia, citrus, sweet apple, and apricot on the nose; concentrated yet taut on the palate with a waxy texture, almond, and spice; finishing ripe and mighty tasty. 92 Points, Jeni Port, Halliday’s Wine Companion 2025.

Appearance

Pale yellow with golden hues — the fresh, luminous colour of a Heathcote Rhône white blend matured for six months on full yeast lees in 2000L French oak foudre and puncheons, with the texture and depth that extended lees contact and large-format oak deliver.

Aroma

Honeysuckle, acacia, citrus, sweet apple, and apricot gather and meld beautifully — the expressive, aromatic bouquet of a four-way blend where Roussanne brings earthiness and roundness, Marsanne adds structure and longevity, Grenache Blanc contributes freshness and weight, and Viognier fills the palate with stone fruit lift and texture.

Palate

Nicely concentrated yet taut — waxy in texture, with added almond and spice notes from six months on full yeast lees in large French oak. Finishes ripe and mighty tasty, with the natural acidity and textural complexity that Rhône Valley white varieties grown in Heathcote consistently deliver at their finest.

Pairs With

Roast chicken, grilled fish, scallops, soft cheeses, mushroom risotto, and rich white meat dishes — the waxy texture, stone fruit depth, and natural acidity make Wild Duck Creek White Duck a deeply versatile and satisfying partner for the table. Serve well chilled or slightly below room temperature to appreciate the full texture.

Reviews

“Rhône Valley white grape varieties are a natural fit in Heathcote, none better than a four-way blend that brings qualities from each grape to the table. Honeysuckle, acacia, citrus, sweet apple and apricot gather and meld beautifully. The palate is built on a nicely concentrated yet taut base, waxy in texture, with added almond and spice notes. Finishes ripe and mighty tasty.”

Winemaking Notes

37% Roussanne, 32% Marsanne, 26% Grenache Blanc, 5% Viognier — fermented and matured for six months in large 2000L French oak foudre and puncheons on full yeast lees. The extended lees contact builds textural complexity, almond, and spice without overwhelming the varieties’ natural aromatic character. A four-way Rhône blend that showcases what Heathcote can do beyond Shiraz.

Producer History

Wild Duck Creek Estate is one of Heathcote’s most celebrated and distinctive producers — a winery renowned for bold, characterful reds from the region’s ancient Cambrian soils, but equally committed to producing textural, aromatic whites of genuine complexity and depth. White Duck is the fullest expression of that commitment — a four-way Rhône white blend of texture, vibrancy, and wonderful length of flavour that showcases what Heathcote can do beyond Shiraz. Full of flavour. Full of life.
