Vignole Chianti Classico 2022 is sourced from a single vineyard estate in Panzano — the first Cru in Europe to be certified organic, where all 20-odd producers, including Vignole, practise organic viticulture. A blend of Sangiovese (85%) and Merlot (15%), hand-harvested and fermented separately in concrete vats before 12 months of individual oak ageing and a further 12 months of bottle ageing prior to release, this is a Chianti Classico of genuine depth, structure, and regional character. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a long, satisfying finish — a compelling expression of one of Tuscany’s most celebrated terroirs.

Appearance

Rich, deep red with the vibrant intensity characteristic of Sangiovese from the Panzano Cru.

Aroma

Powerful and expressive — wild berries, gladiolas, and violets lead a bouquet of real aromatic complexity and lift. Classic Chianti Classico character with a distinctly floral and fruit-driven personality.

Palate

Full-bodied and generously structured, with well-integrated tannins that speak to the quality of the fruit and the care of the winemaking. The finish is long and satisfying — a wine of genuine presence and persistence.

Pairs With

Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragù, aged Pecorino, and slow-braised lamb. A natural companion to the Tuscan table in all its forms.

Production Notes

Vignole Chianti Classico Annata is a blend of Sangiovese (85%) and Merlot (15%), hand-harvested from the estate’s single vineyard in Panzano. Merlot is picked in late September and Sangiovese in early October. The grapes are fermented separately in concrete vats with maceration on skins for 15 days. The wines are then aged separately for 12 months — the Sangiovese in medium-sized oak casks and the Merlot in smaller French barrels — before blending and a further 12 months of bottle ageing prior to release. Certified organic — part of the Panzano Cru, the first certified organic Cru in Europe.

Producer History

Fratelli Nistri is one of the oldest wine businesses in Tuscany, founded in 1865 by Francesco Nistri in Mezzana, on the outskirts of Prato. Now in its fifth generation under brothers Massimo and Fabrizio Nistri, the winery has evolved considerably whilst remaining true to its founding principles. The Vignole estate in Panzano was purchased by the brothers’ father in the 1970s and renovated in the 1990s with close-density planting — a significant investment in quality that has defined the estate’s character ever since. In 2006, winery operations moved from Prato to Greve in Chianti, at the heart of the Chianti Classico production zone, accompanied by notable investment in winery and production infrastructure that has lifted quality significantly. The central office remains in Prato, near the original founding place — a quiet nod to a legacy now spanning more than 160 years.
