This sophisticated expression balances structural complexity with restraint, offering layered citrus notes complemented by subtle oak integration.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Brilliant pale gold with green tinges, displaying excellent clarity and viscosity that hints at the wine's textural complexity and careful oak maturation.

Aroma

The nose presents an elegant bouquet of white peach, citrus blossom, and nectarine, interwoven with subtle notes of toasted hazelnuts, vanilla, and struck flint. The restrained oak influence allows the pure fruit expression to shine whilst adding layers of complexity and sophistication.

Palate

The palate reveals remarkable tension between fruit purity and textural elements, with flavours of grapefruit, lemon curd, and white stone fruit supported by creamy oak-derived characters. The wine's structural complexity is balanced by bright acidity, whilst 10 months in French barriques contributes a silky mid-palate texture. The finish is persistent and mineral-driven, characteristic of premium cool-climate Chardonnay, with excellent length and refinement.

Pairs With

This wine pairs beautifully with pan-seared scallops, roasted chicken with herbs, creamy risotto, grilled lobster, aged hard cheeses such as Comté or aged cheddar, and delicate white fish preparations with butter-based sauces.

Winery & Vintage Info

Winemaking Notes
The 100% Chardonnay fruit was hand-picked from carefully selected vineyards in Karridale and Wilyabrup, Margaret River, reflecting the Finisterre philosophy of focussing on single-variety, single-region wines from special sites. Whole bunch pressed, the juice was fermented in 50% new French oak with the remainder in one and two-year-old oak, utilising wild indigenous yeasts to develop complexity and site expression. Hand-harvesting and meticulous fruit sorting ensure only the finest parcels are selected, whilst intuitive winemaking delivers wines with exceptional clarity, purity, and texture. The wine was aged for 10 months in French barriques before bottling, allowing the oak to integrate seamlessly whilst preserving the wine's vibrant fruit character.

Vintage Conditions
The 2024 vintage in Margaret River provided excellent conditions for premium Chardonnay production, with moderate temperatures throughout the growing season ensuring optimal flavour development and natural acidity retention. The cool-climate sites of Karridale and Wilyabrup benefited from consistent maritime influences, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly and evenly whilst maintaining the region's hallmark elegance and mineral complexity. These ideal vintage conditions, combined with the Finisterre commitment to small-parcel winemaking from exceptional terroir, have produced a Chardonnay of outstanding balance, structure, and age-worthiness that exemplifies modern Australian winemaking excellence.
