Five Vineyard is a family estate in the Plenty Region of Victoria, 45 minutes from Melbourne's CBD. Planted from 2019 across 14 hectares of estate vines, the property produces Sangiovese, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir — all grown on a single site and hand harvested for each vintage. The Estate Sangiovese is sourced from a north-west-facing slope approximately 200 metres above sea level, where Silurian-aged sandstone and surrounding volcanic soils, combined with gentle breezes and long cool-climate ripening, build the structure and aromatic complexity the variety demands.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Rich and savoury, with dark cherry at the centre, alongside olive, game and a subtle note of nutmeg. The aromatics have genuine depth and cool-climate lift.
Palate: Generous and well-textured, with fruit from the north-west-facing slope showing real concentration. Fine-grained tannins deliver structure and depth without austerity, supported by bright acidity. The overall impression is of a wine that is structured and deep, yet accessible.
Finish: Long and firm, with persistent dark fruit and savoury complexity carrying through to a clean, lingering close.
Vineyard & Winemaking
Single vineyard and hand harvested, the 2024 Sangiovese is a direct expression of this estate block — grown at approximately 200m elevation on Silurian-aged sandstone, with volcanic soils on the surrounding site. Gentle breezes moderate the growing season, allowing the long, cool ripening that gives Sangiovese its characteristic acidity, colour and tannin structure. The winemaking approach preserves varietal integrity and site character.
