Moppity Tristis Shiraz 2021 is a landmark wine — Moppity’s first Canberra Region Shiraz, crafted from a single high-elevation vineyard on the Barton Highway in Murumbateman, and a compelling demonstration of the region’s ability to produce world-class, cool-climate Shiraz. Planted with clones 1127 and BVRC30 propagated from Moppity’s finest Hilltops Shiraz blocks — the same clones used for Escalier and Reserve — the fruit was hand-picked by family and friends after a cool, long ripening season at 13 Baume, processed into 1.5 tonne open fermenters with 30% whole-bunches and balance whole berries, and matured for 10 months in 35% new French puncheons. Beautifully bright and fragrant — red and blue berries, ripe cherries, black plums, and hints of Asian spice on the nose; medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and aromatic floral notes on the palate; a long finish with supple, well-integrated tannins. A great beginning for Moppity in the Canberra Region.
