Irvine Grand Merlot 2019 brings together dark-fruited richness and fine structure in a full-bodied Eden Valley red. Dense yet supple, it is inviting now and made to evolve with careful cellaring.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep crimson red with a ruby hue.
Nose: Plum and black cherry lead, followed by savoury cedar, coffee and earthy complexity.
Palate: Juicy blackberry and green plum meet anise and a cool menthol note, with mocha and dark chocolate adding depth. The fruit is dense and persistent, carried by fine, textural tannins that feel supple yet purposeful.
Finish: Dark fruit lingers with mocha, cedar-led savoury spice and fine tannin, leaving a long, composed finish.
Cellaring & Structure
Irvine describes the wine as delicious now and expects it to approach peak maturity around 2030. The producer indicates it could continue developing for around five years beyond that, or longer, depending on cellaring and preference. Halliday Wine Companion gives a separate drinking window of 2025–2038.
