Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch is one of Australia's most distinctive cool-climate Shiraz expressions — a wine shaped by the wild, elevated terrain of the Strathbogie Ranges and the Fowles family's deep connection to their land and table. The 2021 vintage brings the hallmark Strathbogie spice and perfume with an added dimension of silky richness, underpinned by wild-yeast complexity and maturation in historic English oak that has been part of the Fowles winery for generations.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Dark purple.

Nose: White and black pepper, black olive, plums, dark strawberry compote, blackberry and hints of mocha.

Palate: Plum and berry fruit with a soft, silky and balanced palate and fine tannins.

Finish: A lingering milk-chocolate character completes the wine.

Winemaking

The 2021 Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Shiraz was fermented using wild yeast — an approach that builds natural complexity and textural depth that conventional inoculated fermentation cannot replicate. Following fermentation, the wine was matured for 12 months in older oak, with a portion spending time in 130-year-old English oak casks that have become integral to the Fowles winery. These ancient vessels contribute a gentle, integrative maturation environment, adding subtle structure without imposing oak flavour on the fruit. The result is a wine that is simultaneously regional in character and distinctly artisanal in its production.
