Luccarelli Puglia Negroamaro 2024 is a deeply coloured, richly flavoured red from the sun-drenched Salento region of Puglia — crafted from one of southern Italy’s most fascinating and characterful grape varieties. Deep ruby with hints of purple, an intense and savoury aroma of blackcurrants, dark berries, and spice, and a medium-bodied palate that is velvety smooth, perfectly balanced, and finishes fresh and satisfying.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Deep ruby red with hints of purple — the rich, vivid colour of a Negroamaro from the iron-rich red soils of Salento, grown on calcareous rock and crafted with 8–10 days of temperature-controlled maceration for depth, colour, and character.

Aroma

Intense and savoury — a harmonious combination of blackcurrants, dark berries, and spice, with the dark bitter chocolate complexity and plum and prune depth that the finest Negroamaro from the heel of Italy’s boot consistently delivers.

Palate

Velvety smooth and perfectly balanced — medium-bodied, with rich dark berry fruit, savoury spice, and the plum and prune complexity that 4–5 months in used American and French oak barriques adds without overwhelming the variety’s inherent character. Fresh and satisfying on the finish.

Pairs With

A natural partner for pasta dishes, slow-cooked meat dishes, and medium-aged cheeses — the velvety texture, dark berry depth, and savoury finish make Luccarelli Negroamaro a deeply versatile and satisfying companion for the table.

Winemaking Notes

Grapes sourced from very red, iron-oxide-rich soils lying upon a layer of calcareous rock in the Salento region, across the provinces of Taranto and Brindisi. De-stemmed and macerated at controlled temperature for 8–10 days with regular pump-overs for colour, tannin, and flavour extraction. Racked off and malolactic fermentation completed in stainless steel tanks, before refinement in used American and French oak barriques for 4–5 months.

Producer History

Luccarelli’s philosophy lies in the mastery of three elements central to the wine tradition of Salento: sun, sea, and passion. Only the best fruit is selected from a land blessed by the sun — with a focus on the oldest bushvines of the Salento region. Negroamaro is one of the most fascinating grapes unique to the deep south of Italy, and far more appealing than its name — meaning “the black bitter one” — would suggest. Deeply coloured, richly flavoured, and full of character, with dark bitter chocolate, plum, prune, and savoury complexity that makes it one of the great undiscovered varieties of the Italian south. From the heel of Italy’s boot. Worth every sip.
