Distilled in a tall, sleek custom-made copper pot still with a round onion above the boiler, an extremely tall tapered neck, and an inclined lyne arm — designed to maximise passive reflux and produce a lighter, fruitier, and easy-to-drink spirit just right for the Australian climate. The mash bill is 100% Australian barley, fermented for a full seven days to develop character before distillation. The new make spirit goes into customised virgin American white oak barrels sourced directly from Kentucky, toasted and charred to specific profiles to deliver vanilla, toffee, and butterscotch on the front end, before finishing in ex-sherry casks for the plum and dark berry character that defines the Loaded Barrel Single Malt. Water is added using a state-of-the-art Grander Water system for the purest possible dilution.
Producer History
Loaded Barrel Distillery was conceived in 2018 by Head Distiller and owner Bob Wilhelm — a family-owned, proudly independent distillery located in Rowville, South East Melbourne. The goal was simple: create a family legacy and, more importantly, damn good whisky and gin. The stuff you dream of drinking as you watch your clock slowly tick down to 5pm on a weekday. With a small team of four, every bottle gets the time and attention it deserves. Loaded Barrel pride themselves on creating spirits that reinvent tradition — utilising both modern and traditional brewing techniques, a proprietary barrel program sourcing casks from across the globe, and a copper pot still that some might say is sexy.
