Little Giant Shiraz 2024 takes its name and spirit from the southern hairy-nosed wombat — South Australia’s proud state emblem, stocky and robust, and a creature that delivers well above its size and weight. Like the wombat, Little Giant is crafted from premium South Australian fruit that punches well above its station: Barossa Valley Shiraz lifted and refined by the addition of Eden Valley fruit from cooler, higher-altitude terroirs, delivering a wine of remarkable aromatic complexity, vibrancy, and modern style. Hand-crafted with minimal additions and preservatives, this is a wine of the vineyard first and foremost.

Appearance

Deep, vibrant red with the youthful intensity of a Barossa Shiraz from a quality vintage.

Aroma

The integration of Eden Valley fruit imparts remarkable aromatic complexity and vivacity — lifted, fresh, and expressive, with the cooler-climate terroir adding a vivid aromatic dimension to the Barossa’s natural depth and richness.

Palate

Modern in style and beautifully balanced, with nuanced vanilla and chocolate characteristics from nine months in seasoned large-format French and American oak. The palate concludes with a supple, mouth-coating texture whilst preserving the freshness and energy that define the Little Giant philosophy. Fruit vibrancy is never hidden — this is a wine that drinks with genuine drinkability and purpose.

Pairs With

Classic beef and mushroom pie, slow-braised lamb, grilled sausages, and hearty pasta dishes. A wine made to be a great companion at the table — don’t let the size fool you.

Winemaking Notes

Sourced from select premium vineyards across both the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, the fruit is picked in the cool of the morning to retain freshness and aromatic lift. After destemming, the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks before spending nine months in used large-format French and American oak barrels — long enough to build structure and develop flavour complexity, without extracting overt oak character. Minimal additions and preservatives throughout, in keeping with the Little Giant philosophy of letting the vineyard speak without interference.

Producer History

Little Giant is a South Australian wine project built around a simple but uncompromising idea: that premium regional fruit, handled with care and minimal intervention, can deliver character and interest well above its size and weight — just like the southern hairy-nosed wombat it is named after. Seeking fruit expression, drinkability, and food compatibility above all else, Little Giant is a wine made of the vineyard, for the table.
