Tasting Notes

Appearance

This distinguished Macedon Ranges Riesling presents a light, bright yellow hue with luminous clarity and youthful brilliance, displaying the exceptional quality characteristic of Granite Hills — one of Australia’s most celebrated and trophy-laden cool-climate producers, with 42 trophies to date including twice winner of the Victorian Trophy for Wines of Provenance, crafted from 50-year-old vines planted at over 550 metres elevation on stony granite soils.

Aroma

The nose is bright, floral and immediately captivating, with citrus blossom, lime and musk aromatics backed by wet slate and the faintest touch of fennel creating a piercingly pure and mineral-driven aromatic profile of exceptional refinement and distinction. This extraordinary bouquet reflects the special character imparted by the stony granite soils, high altitude and cool night temperatures of the Macedon Ranges — cool-climate viticulture at its very finest.

Palate

Piercingly pure and beautifully delicate on the palate, with pear and apple flavours on a dry, light-bodied but nicely intense palate of exceptional precision and length. A fine tapestry of acidity gives wonderful contrast and impressive length, whilst a honey and spice note adds richness to the citrus fruits on the mid to back palate. The finish is long, elegant and deeply satisfying — a Riesling of outstanding complexity that is immediately approachable now but will last for decades.

Pairs With

This exceptional Macedon Ranges Riesling is a natural companion to freshly shucked oysters, steamed mud crab, Thai green curry, Vietnamese spring rolls, grilled trout, soft goat’s cheese, or enjoyed chilled on its own as an elegant aperitif, where its lime, musk and wet slate minerality shine with effortless cool-climate distinction.
