History & Philosophy
Archie Rose was founded in 2014 in Rosebery, Sydney — in a beautifully restored industrial building that houses one of the most sophisticated and thoughtfully designed craft distilleries in the world. The distillery takes its name from the Archie Rose Hotel, a historic pub that once stood on the site, and its philosophy is built on a simple but uncompromising foundation: use only the finest ingredients, push the boundaries of what Australian craft spirits can be, and never compromise on quality.
From its earliest days, Archie Rose distinguished itself through a commitment to sourcing the finest and most distinctive ingredients — including native Australian botanicals that had never before been used in gin production, rare malted rye from carefully selected Australian growers, and honey from rooftop beehives maintained on the distillery roof in Rosebery. This dedication to ingredient quality and provenance, combined with a genuinely innovative approach to distillation and maturation, has produced a body of work that is as distinctive and original as any craft distillery in the world.

Crafted from 14 individually distilled botanicals — each distilled separately to preserve its unique character before being blended in precise proportions — including native Australian Blood Limes, Dorrigo Pepperleaf, Lemon Myrtle, and ethically grown River Mint, all underpinned by a classic juniper backbone. Crystal clear with aromas of native Blood Limes, Lemon Myrtle, and Dorrigo Pepperleaf on the nose. Archie Rose Distiller’s Strength Gin 700mL — 52.4% ABV — The Signature Dry Gin taken to its most intense and complex expression — a navy-strength gin of 52.4% ABV crafted from 16 botanicals, including fresh pears from Orange in NSW, rose petals, elderflower, pronounced juniper, and distilled honey sourced from rooftop beehives maintained on the Rosebery distillery roof. Floral, fruited, and complex on the nose — rose petals and elderflower leading with fresh pear and pronounced juniper. Full-bodied and complex on the palate, with fresh pear and honey adding richness and weight. A gin of extraordinary power and elegance that holds its character beautifully against ice and mixers. Archie Rose Rye Malt Whisky 700mL — 46% ABV — The whisky that made Australia a serious player on the world rye whisky stage. Made from selectively sourced rare malted rye — preferred over un-malted rye for its distinctive, richer character — and the finest malted barley, matured in virgin American oak casks air-dried for 36 months in the maritime air of coastal Sydney. The maritime environment of Rosebery — with its salt air, humidity, and temperature variation — plays a significant role in the character of the matured spirit, accelerating the interaction between spirit and wood and imparting a distinctive coastal character to the whisky. Spiced custard, ginger, stone fruit, and baked apple pie on the nose and palate, with a fresh herbal finish. A whisky of genuine originality and world-class quality. Archie Rose Single Malt Whisky 700mL — 46% ABV — Australia’s most awarded single malt whisky — a spirit of extraordinary complexity and character crafted from a six-malt mash bill (an unusually low-yielding but richer approach that produces a spirit of greater depth and flavour than conventional single-malt production). Matured predominantly in 100, 200, and 300-litre Australian apera casks — the fortified wine casks that are one of the most distinctive and original maturation choices in Australian whisky — complemented by ex-bourbon casks and Archie Rose’s own 36-month air-dried ex-rye casks, each coopered with a specific balance of both char and toast. Fresh herbs, shortbread biscuits, raisins, toffee, and dark chocolate on the nose. Sticky date pudding, amaretto, and espresso on the palate with a long, lingering finish. How to Enjoy Archie Rose Spirits
The Signature Dry Gin is best served at 4–6°C in a copa glass over ice with premium tonic water (50mL gin to 150mL tonic) and a twist of native lime or a sprig of lemon myrtle. The Distiller’s Strength Gin is outstanding in a classic Martini (60mL gin, 10mL dry vermouth, stirred over ice, strained into a chilled glass with a lemon twist) or with premium tonic and a slice of fresh pear. Both whiskies are best enjoyed neat in a Glencairn glass at room temperature — allow five to ten minutes to open before nosing, and add a few drops of still water if desired to release additional aromatic complexity. The Rye Malt is also outstanding in a classic Whisky Sour (45mL Rye Malt, 30mL fresh lemon juice, 15mL sugar syrup, egg white, shaken and strained).
