Tasting Notes

Appearance

This distinguished Australian Single Malt Whisky presents a rich, warm amber colour with golden depth and brilliant clarity, displaying the exceptional quality characteristic of a whisky matured predominantly in 100, 200 and 300-litre Australian apera casks, complemented by ex-bourbon and Archie Rose’s own 36-month air-dried ex-rye casks — each coopered with a specific balance of both char and toast for an entirely different level of complexity.

Aroma

The nose is expressive and immediately captivating, with fresh herbs, shortbread biscuits, raisins, toffee and dark chocolate creating a sophisticated and beautifully layered aromatic profile of genuine depth and distinction. This extraordinary bouquet reflects the remarkable complexity of Archie Rose’s six-malt mash bill — an unusually low-yielding but significantly richer approach that highlights six malts, each with a unique profile and character, as opposed to the typical one or two used in most whiskies.

Palate

Luscious and beautifully integrated on the palate, with sticky date pudding and amaretto delivering a richly textured and deeply satisfying flavour profile of exceptional complexity and regional character. A final note of espresso lingers on the tongue with remarkable persistence — a Single Malt Whisky of outstanding distinction that has earned its place as one of Australia’s most celebrated and award-winning whiskies.

Pairs With

This exceptional Australian Single Malt Whisky is a natural companion to sticky date pudding, dark chocolate, espresso desserts, aged cheeses, charcuterie, or enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to fully appreciate the extraordinary complexity of its six-malt character and Australian apera cask maturation.

Winemaking Notes

Archie Rose Single Malt Whisky is crafted from a six-malt mash bill — an unusually low-yielding but significantly richer approach that highlights six malts, each with a unique profile and character, providing a far more expressive flavour full of distinct regional character than the typical one or two malts used in most whiskies. The whisky is matured predominantly in 100, 200 and 300-litre Australian apera casks, complemented by a selection of ex-bourbon and Archie Rose’s own 36-month air-dried ex-rye casks, each coopered with a specific balance of both char and toast. The toasting process — unusual in the realm of distilling — penetrates further into the oak at lower heat and longer duration than a traditional char, offering an entirely different level of complexity. The natural sweetness of these casks complements the savoury charisma of the spirit beautifully.

Vintage Conditions

Archie Rose Single Malt Whisky has been recognised as Australia’s Best Single Malt Whisky at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (USA), the World Whisky Masters (London) and the SIP Awards (USA), as well as earning the title of World’s Best Unaged Whisky for the new make spirit — an extraordinary collection of accolades that reflects the exceptional quality, innovation and craftsmanship of the Archie Rose distilling team. Distilled in Sydney, Australia, this release represents the pinnacle of Archie Rose’s unwavering belief that malt provides a potent and vital contribution to the final flavour profile — a philosophy that has produced one of the most celebrated and distinctive Single Malt Whiskies in the Southern Hemisphere.
