Vat 47 Chardonnay comes entirely from the Short Flat Vineyard, where the original Chardonnay vines were planted by Murray Tyrrell in 1968. The soil profile in this dry-grown vineyard is unlike that of any other Tyrrell's vineyard — the defining factor in Vat 47's unique character.

The 2024 vintage was one of the earliest on record in the Hunter Valley. A warm, dry growing season coupled with lower crop levels produced wines of full, intense flavour with excellent line and length.

All fruit was handpicked between January 8 and 15. Immediately basket-pressed, with free-run juice transferred to French oak barriques — approximately 15% new, 40% second use, the remainder old — to complete fermentation and nine months maturation before bottling in October 2024.

Stonefruit and creaminess on the nose with a hint of ginger spice from the oak. The palate displays grapefruit citrus and a lingering rich fruit sweetness. Textural, savoury elements from the slight solids ferment give the palate a lovely grain, balanced by the hallmark Vat 47 acid structure.
