Prohibition Liquor Co. Gin is the culmination of a vision to recreate the genuine spirit of clandestine heritage — with contemporary craftsmanship and the world’s finest botanical ingredients. When Prohibition was introduced in 1920, a shadowy underground industry sprang into existence with a single aim: to give the people what they wanted most. Gin was the liquor of choice, produced by clandestine bootleg spirit makers who operated in the shadows. One hundred years later, their spirit lives on at the Prohibition Liquor Co. — but while the small-batch craftsmanship echoes that of the bootleggers, the artisan philosophy and obsession with premium botanicals result in an altogether more sophisticated end result.

Appearance

Pale and luminous with the clarity of a gin crafted with exceptional care and precision.

Aroma

The unique flavour story begins with wormwood — a substance banned during the Prohibition era and better known for its role in absinthe — before blood orange and ruby red grapefruit deliver a fresh, vibrant citrus edge. Juniper, coriander, and ginger root follow, with Australian native lemon myrtle, green tea, vanilla, and lavender softening the finish and drawing out depth and complexity.

Palate

Sophisticated and deep in flavour, with a fresh citrus note and a warm, peppery finish that lingers with real presence. The wormwood adds a distinctive bitterness and intrigue that sets this gin apart from anything in the conventional gin canon — a spirit with genuine character and a story behind every sip.

Serving Suggestions

Exceptional with premium tonic and a wedge of blood orange to echo the citrus botanicals. Outstanding in a classic Negroni, where the wormwood bitterness and peppery finish add a compelling depth. Equally rewarding in a Gin Sour or served neat over ice for those who appreciate a gin with genuine complexity.

Production Notes

All Prohibition Gin is distilled onsite at the Gilbert Street city distillery on a 900L copper pot still named Mary, with bottling and production at Seppeltsfield Estate in the Barossa Valley. Under Head Distiller Hugh Lumsden, only the finest quality botanicals are sourced — a combination of traditional ingredients from across the globe and locally sourced native Australian botanicals. The Original Gin leads with wormwood — a substance banned during the Prohibition era and the defining ingredient of absinthe — before blood orange and ruby red grapefruit deliver a fresh citrus edge. Juniper, coriander, ginger root and pink peppercorns provide structure and warmth; lemon myrtle, green tea, vanilla and lavender soften the finish.

Producer History

Prohibition Liquor Co. was founded in Adelaide in 2015 by two mates — one with a background in food and beverage, the other a graphic designer with a passion for brand building. From a back-yard garage in the inner suburbs, the brand grew into an Adelaide institution. In 2017, Prohibition opened its city distillery on Gilbert Street. Today, the spirits are distributed across Australia and around the world, with awards from San Francisco, Singapore, Tokyo, London and across Australia.
