Ninth Island Tasmanian Sparkling Cuvée NV is an unashamedly Tasmanian sparkling wine — delicate yet complex, named after the tiny windswept island that sits alone in Bass Strait just offshore from the Pipers Brook Estate where it is made. Bright and refreshing, with citrus zest, vanilla, and white flowers; lemon curd from the Chardonnay and delicate strawberries from the Pinot Noir on the palate; creamy notes from bottle ageing and the refreshing natural acidity that the Pipers River region is renowned for. Apéritif in style, classic in execution.

Appearance

Bright and luminous with a fine, persistent bead — the fresh, inviting colour of a Tasmanian sparkling wine grown in the pristine, windswept environment of the Pipers River region, with the clarity and precision that cool climate fruit and careful bottle ageing deliver.

Aroma

Fragrant and fresh — citrus zest, vanilla, and white flowers, with the vibrant fruit character that the Tamar Valley and Pipers River region consistently produce. Full of life and immediately inviting, with the delicate complexity that makes Ninth Island Sparkling a wine that seeks to reflect the pristine environment in which it is grown.

Palate

Layered and elegant — lemon curd from the Chardonnay fruit and delicate strawberries from the Pinot Noir, balanced by creamy notes from ageing in bottle and the refreshing natural acidity that the Pipers River region is renowned for. Delicate yet complex, and deeply enjoyable from first sip to last.

Pairs With

Fresh oysters, Tasmanian seafood, soft cheeses, smoked salmon, and delicate canapés — or simply as the perfect apéritif for any occasion that deserves a Tasmanian sparkling wine of genuine distinction. The citrus freshness, creamy texture, and natural acidity make Ninth Island Sparkling a natural and deeply satisfying partner for light cuisine of every kind.

Winemaking Notes

A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Pipers River region of northern Tasmania — one of Australia’s coolest and most distinctive wine regions, renowned for its natural acidity, pristine growing conditions, and the wild, vibrant fruit character that the Bass Strait’s maritime influence delivers. Aged in bottle for creamy complexity and balance, with the refreshing natural acidity of the Pipers River region providing the structure and freshness that define the Ninth Island style.

Producer History

Ninth Island is named after a tiny island that sits alone in Bass Strait, just offshore from the Pipers Brook Estate in northern Tasmania — its windswept, pristine environment the inspiration behind a range of wines that capture the wild flavours of Tasmania. The legacy of George and Christian Kreglinger began in Belgium, two brothers who dared to dream and established a family company that still holds trade registration number one in Antwerp to this day. In 1893, the Kreglinger group extended to Australia, and the family are now proud owners of Ninth Island, Pipers Brook, and Norfolk Vineyard. Over 130 years of Kreglinger family heritage — and every bottle of Ninth Island carries the spirit of that windswept island in every bubble.
