"Inoculated and aged 10 months in French barriques, 25% new. It seems reds, pinot noir particularly, come loaded with acid and a lighter frame this vintage. This is simply made but it's a little beauty. A core of tangy juicy fruit, super fragrant and so juicy with shy tannins. A light red to enjoy in its youth. Spot-on."

"Pinot Noir from the Upper Yarra.
Smoky aromatics and indeed flavours and with a dry, sinewy aspect to it. This is a pinot noir for those who prefer structure over overt fruit, not that there’s necessarily a lack of the latter. Red cherries, lots of twiggy spice, crushed fennel, smoke and herbs. Savouriness writ large. This will age but, personally, I would tuck into this now."

Winery & Vintage Info

Lone Star Creek Vineyard is a well-established vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley in Victoria which produces wines of classic Yarra Valley character.

Lone Star Creek Vineyard has been operating as a commercial vineyard since 1997. We have a passion for wine and most importantly its provenance, believing the vineyard is the single most important factor influencing wine outcomes. We purchased the property as grazing land and established the vineyard through the industry boom years of the late nineties.

Located in the Upper Yarra Valley on the boundary of Woori Yallock and Hoddles Creek, we produce cool climate grapes that are usually amongst the last picked in the region. The combination of rolling hills, variable soil types and viticulture practices has given the vineyard a unique terroir.

Given our focus on provenance, the next logical step for us was to create single vineyard wines. We contract to a number of leading wineries in the Yarra Valley; however, most of our grape production is then blended into Yarra Valley GI branded product. Starting with the 2017 vintage we now have three vintages under our belt. The wines are a pure expression of our terroir which we believe is very attractive to the market.

Franco D’Anna (winemaker at Hoddles Creek Estate), is making wines which express the unique character of our vineyard with minimal intervention in the winery. He has a deep understanding of the potential offered by our vineyard, having purchased our wine grapes for his own labels for many years.

The Lone Star Creek Vineyard label is a representation of all that is dear to us, including our Wiltshire sheep that help sustain the productivity of the vineyard. Volumes are small and will remain so.

We aim to deliver high quality and value for money wines. – Winery Notes
