Winery & Vintage Info

The 2024 vintage in Margaret River delivered exceptional growing conditions, characterised by a mild winter with adequate rainfall that replenished soil moisture reserves. Spring brought consistent temperatures and minimal frost risk, allowing for even bud-burst and flowering across the region. The summer months were marked by warm, dry days tempered by the cooling influence of the Indian Ocean, creating ideal conditions for flavour development whilst maintaining natural acidity. Harvest commenced in the cool of early morning, with fruit picked at optimal ripeness to capture the vibrant citrus and stone fruit characters that define this classic Margaret River expression.

Winemaking for the Prelude Chardonnay follows traditional methods with a contemporary approach. Whole bunches were gently pressed, and the juice was settled before fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and seasoned French oak barrels. A portion of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to add textural complexity, whilst regular lees stirring enhanced mouthfeel and integrated the subtle oak influence. The wine was aged on lees for several months to develop depth and structure, before careful blending and bottling. This meticulous approach preserves the wine's inherent freshness and regional character whilst adding layers of complexity that reward both immediate enjoyment and short to medium-term cellaring.
