Dalwhinnie Mesa Chardonnay 2023 from Pyrenees showcases exceptional cool-climate winemaking with vibrant stone fruit flavours and elegant oak integration, perfect for discerning wine enthusiasts seeking premium Australian Chardonnay at competitive prices from independent liquor specialists.

Appearance

Light straw with golden tints, displaying the wine's youthful vibrancy and careful winemaking approach.

Aroma

The nose reveals fragrant orange blossom alongside ripe, vibrant stone fruits. This aromatic profile reflects the cooler 2023 vintage conditions, which produced fruit with refined, delicate characteristics and concentrated flavour despite lower yields from early-season frost.

Palate

Wonderfully balanced with juicy nectarine and lime leading the way, complemented by warm, subtle oak spice and fine natural acidity. The wine was 100% hand-picked and fermented spontaneously in largely older oak puncheons and barriques, with no additives during fermentation. Six months of barrel maturation allowed the most expressive barrels to be selected for the final blend, resulting in a harmonious, elegant expression.

Pairs With

This versatile Chardonnay complements grilled seafood, roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes, and soft cheeses. The natural acidity and subtle oak make it an excellent match for dishes with rich, buttery sauces.

Cellaring: Best enjoyed within five years of release to appreciate its fresh fruit character and vibrant acidity.

The 2023 vintage benefited from La Niña weather patterns, with cooler temperatures and ample pre-season rainfall promoting healthy vine growth and producing fruit with exceptional natural acidity and refined characteristics.

Winery & Vintage Info

Vintage Conditions

The 2023 season saw a continuation of the La Niña weather patterns, with cooler weather and abundant rainfall prior to the growing season providing healthy vine growth. Cooler vintage temperatures produced fruit with vibrant natural acidity and more refined, delicate characteristics. Whilst frost early in the season caused some lower yields, the resulting fruit shows deliciously concentrated flavour. This wine will be best enjoyed within five years of release to appreciate its fresh fruit character and lively acidity.

Winemaking

The fruit was 100% hand-picked and pressed directly to barrel for fermentation in largely older oak puncheons and barriques. Fermentation occurred spontaneously (wild fermentation) with no additives used during the fermentation process. Post-fermentation, the wine was matured for six months in barrel. Each barrel was then assessed and the most expressive ones were selected for the final blend, ensuring a harmonious and elegant expression of this exceptional Pyrenees Chardonnay.
