Hirsch Hill Estate Chardonnay 2024 is a modern take on a classic Yarra Valley style — made from hand-harvested fruit with full flavour and depth, combining citrus, white peach, and hints of almond meal. Fermentation in a combination of oak and tank brings complexity without tightness, and the result is a beautifully balanced Chardonnay of texture, energy, and structure. One of the gems of Aussie wine, from one of the Yarra Valley’s most promising estates.

Appearance

Straw-yellow and youthful — the bright, promising colour of a 2024 Yarra Valley Chardonnay of genuine pristine fruit character and the energy of a wine still very much at the beginning of its journey.

Aroma

Stonefruit, figs, and white peach lead a seamless and poised bouquet, with a flick of cashews and florals adding complexity and the merest suggestion of oak support — pristine fruit character in full, youthful expression.

Palate

Beautifully balanced — citrus, white peach, and hints of almond meal with a line of fine acidity and good persistence, the oak and tank fermentation bringing complexity without tightness and the texture, energy, and structure that define a genuinely impressive Yarra Valley Chardonnay. Will be even better in twelve months and drink well for the following four to five years.

Pairs With

Roasted chicken, pan-seared scallops, grilled barramundi, lobster, and aged soft-rind cheeses. A Yarra Valley Chardonnay of this balance and energy belongs at a table that appreciates wines of genuine pristine fruit character and winemaking restraint.

Reviews

“Yarra Valley Chardonnay is one of the gems of Aussie wine and this is an impressive example. It relies on the excellence of its pristine fruit, ably supported by the merest flick of oak. The colour is a straw/yellow and it is immediately obvious that the wine is still very youthful. There is real promise here. There are notes of stonefruits and figs, a flick of cashews and florals, with hints of white peach. A seamless and poised style with a line of fine acidity and good persistence, this will be even better in twelve months and drink well for the following four to five years.” — Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot
