The 2021 Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz is is amazingly expressive and approachable for a wine of such depth. It is both bright and complex and with convincingly silky texture. Flavours of dark cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate and multiple dried spices are supported by restrained tannin. Look for the classic calling card of palate length and persistence.

Great drinking now but this wine will also benefit from up to 10 - 15 years of careful cellaring.

The quality of this vintage is immediately evident. The fruit was sourced from the Ebenezer subregion and that brings a distinctive iron stone slightly rusty nail character to the beautiful fruit. Spicy iron filings, dark plum and spicy red fruits on the nose. The density of the fruit has enabled Glaetzer to smack 40% new oak into it. A small amount of American rounds out the finish and palate feel.

Winery & Vintage Info

The 2021 Glaetzer Bishop is a true expression of Barossa Shiraz that is elegantly structured with a long finish. Exceptional old vine fruit was sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley. Vine age 35—120 years old. Yield 3 tonnes per hectare.

Fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters. Extended maceration was employed to enable good tannin development so the wine is soft and approachable early. Matured for 16 months in a mix of 40% new oak and 60% 2— 3 year old oak hogshead barrels (90% French / 10% American).
