Five Vineyard Estate — A Family Winery in Mernda, Victoria

Five Vineyard Estate is a boutique, family-owned estate winery located in Mernda, just 45 minutes from the Melbourne CBD. Named for the five members of the Vella family — parents Paul and Caroline, and siblings Alex, Sam, and Olivia — the estate is a genuinely exciting new voice in Victorian wine, producing single vineyard, hand-harvested wines from estate-grown fruit since its first vintage in 2022.

The Estate & Its Story

The Vella family planted the first vines in 2019, following meticulous research into the site’s unique topography and soil quality to ensure the right varieties were matched to the land. Construction began in 2021 on an architecturally designed winery, restaurant, and event centre set among 14 hectares of vines, with the first vintage produced in 2022.

The Varieties & Soils

The family carefully selected varieties tailored to the specific character of the Mernda site. The estate is planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, and Sangiovese — each chosen to suit the land’s unique topography and soil quality, and each expressing a distinct personality in the glass.
