Tasting Notes

Appearance

Yellow gold with brilliant reflections — demonstrating both the maturity of the 2015 vintage and Bollinger’s expert vinification techniques. A prestige Champagne of genuine depth and luminous elegance.

Aroma

Layered and immediately captivating — small stone fruits lead with Pomme Gris, plum, and Mirabelle plum complemented by delicate honey. Red fruits follow — blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry, and raspberry with a touch of almond. As the wine opens, exotic mango and tertiary notes of vanilla and delicate wood emerge with extraordinary complexity.

Palate

Voluptuous and seductive — Mirabelle plum jam richness carries through a palate of genuine luxury and indulgence. The texture is rich and luxurious, with a harmonious finish of chocolate and citrus fruits, a touch of acidity, and subtle tones of schist.

Winemaking Notes

La Grande Année is vinified in oak barrels approximately 20 years old — an artisanal technique that develops complex aromas and, through micro-oxygenation, lends extraordinary ageing potential. Produced only in exceptional vintages, it is the very embodiment of Bollinger’s timeless prestige cuvée philosophy.

Producer History

Bollinger was founded in Aÿ, Champagne in 1829 and remains one of the great independent Champagne houses. In 1911, Georges Bollinger’s British agent suggested the name Special Cuvée — “special” written the English way, without an accent — believing the French expression “Brut sans année” was no match for such a subtle Champagne. More than a century later, Bollinger’s artisanal savoir-faire, oak barrel vinification, and commitment to exceptional vintages remain the hallmarks of one of Champagne’s most celebrated and enduring houses.
