History & Heritage
Overeem Distillery was founded by Casey Overeem, who established the distillery at Old Hobart Distillery in southern Tasmania with a clear and uncompromising vision: to produce world-class single malt whisky that could stand alongside the finest expressions from Scotland and beyond. Casey's passion for the craft, combined with Tasmania's exceptional natural advantages, quickly produced whiskies of remarkable quality that attracted the attention of critics and collectors worldwide.
The distillery has since become part of the broader Old Hobart Distillery family, continuing to produce Overeem single malts under the same small-batch philosophy and commitment to quality that defined the brand from its earliest days. Tasmania is widely regarded as Australia's most exciting and prestigious whisky-producing region — and for good reason. The island state's cool, maritime climate, pristine air, and access to some of the purest water sources in the world create maturation conditions of exceptional quality. The island's water — drawn from ancient dolerite rock formations and filtered through pristine wilderness catchments — is among the softest and purest in the world, imparting a natural clarity and mineral quality to the spirit that is central to Overeem's signature character. Tasmania's cool summers and cold winters also create significant seasonal temperature variation in the warehouse, driving the spirit in and out of the oak with each passing season and accelerating the development of flavour and colour in a controlled and elegant way.

Production & Maturation
Overeem whiskies are produced in small batches using traditional copper pot stills, with each expression matured in carefully selected oak casks that define the character of the finished whisky. The distillery works with three distinct cask types — Port, Sherry, and Bourbon — each imparting its own unique flavour profile to the spirit while allowing Tasmania's pristine base spirit to shine through. All expressions are bottled at 43% ABV, a strength chosen to preserve the integrity and complexity of the whisky without chill filtration.

Our Range
Overeem Port Cask Single Malt Whisky 700mL — The most indulgent expression in the range, matured in Port casks that impart a rich, sweet, and deeply aromatic character to the spirit. Intense aromatics on the nose — salted caramel, butterscotch, and crème brûlée. The palate is soft and viscous with sweet malt and toasted marshmallows, finishing long with hints of sweet pudding. A whisky of extraordinary richness and comfort.
Overeem Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky 700mL — Aged in French oak ex-Sherry casks, this expression delivers the classic richness and dried fruit complexity that defines great Sherry cask maturation. Rich flavours of dark chocolate, toffee, and stewed fruits on the nose and palate, complemented by notes of almonds, marzipan, cinnamon, and light spices. Complex, satisfying, and deeply rewarding.
Overeem Bourbon Cask Single Cask Whisky 700mL — Crafted in Tasmania and aged in American oak ex-Bourbon casks, selected for their heavy toast and char to maximise flavour extraction. An intricate and layered profile — coconut and pineapple on the nose with hints of burnt vanilla and citrus, developing into caramelised banana, marshmallows, and toasted oak on the palate. The lightest and most approachable of the three expressions, yet no less complex.
How to Enjoy Overeem
All three Overeem expressions are best appreciated neat at room temperature in a tulip-shaped glass, allowing the whisky to breathe and reveal its full aromatic complexity. A small drop of still water can help open the spirit further, particularly with the Port and Sherry cask expressions. The Bourbon Cask is equally excellent over a single large ice cube, which tempers the sweetness and allows the vanilla and tropical fruit notes to emerge. For cocktail enthusiasts, all three expressions make exceptional Old Fashioneds — the Port Cask in particular lends itself beautifully to a whisky sour.
