History & Heritage
BenRiach Distillery was established in 1898 in the village of Longmorn, in the heart of the Speyside region of the Scottish Highlands. The distillery was built by John Duff — who also founded the nearby Longmorn Distillery — and was designed from the outset to produce whisky of the highest quality, drawing on the pure water of the Burnside Springs and the abundant local barley that made Speyside the most productive whisky-producing region in Scotland.
The distillery has had a colourful and eventful history — closing in 1900 just two years after opening, reopening in 1965, and passing through several corporate owners before being acquired in 2004 by a consortium led by Billy Walker, whose vision for BenRiach as an independent, innovative, and quality-focused distillery transformed it into one of the most exciting and talked-about single malts in the world. In 2016, BenRiach was acquired by Brown-Forman — the American spirits company behind Jack Daniel's and Woodford Reserve — which has provided the resources and global reach to continue the distillery's extraordinary trajectory while preserving the craft philosophy and innovative spirit that defines it.
One of BenRiach's most distinctive and historically significant features is its floor maltings — one of the very few remaining in Scotland — where barley is still malted in the traditional manner, spread across stone floors and turned by hand to control germination. The distillery also maintains the rare and increasingly unusual practice of producing peated spirit — whisky made from barley that has been dried over burning peat, imparting the characteristic smoky character that is more commonly associated with Islay than with the typically unpeated whiskies of Speyside. Production & Maturation

While most Scotch whisky distilleries rely primarily on ex-bourbon American oak casks — the industry standard — BenRiach maintains one of the most diverse and extensive cask libraries in Scotland, encompassing ex-bourbon barrels, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, virgin oak casks, port pipes from the Douro Valley, rum casks, Marsala casks, Burgundy barrels, and many more. BenRiach Speyside Single Malt 30 Year Old 700mL — 46% ABV — The pinnacle of the BenRiach range and one of the most extraordinary aged Speyside single malts available anywhere in the world. Crafted from peated spirit — a rare and distinctive choice for a Speyside distillery — and matured for a minimum of thirty years in a combination of sherry casks, bourbon barrels, virgin oak casks, and port casks from the Douro Valley. The result of three decades of patient maturation in four different cask types is a whisky of extraordinary depth, complexity, and integration — a spirit in which the peat smoke of the original distillate has been transformed by thirty years of wood influence into something altogether more subtle, refined, and magnificent.
Deep mahogany in colour with aromas of stewed plum, orange, walnut, and cinnamon on the nose. On the palate, notes of dark fruit, manuka honey, and chocolate-coated raisins unfold with remarkable complexity and layering. How to Enjoy BenRiach
