Serge Dagueneau & Filles Pouilly Fumé Tradition 2024 is the flagship wine of this celebrated four-generation Loire family domaine — a harmonious blend of Blanc-Fumé (Sauvignon) vineyard blocks from 16 hectares of vines on the dominant south and south-east facing slopes of the Loire, with an average vine age of 35 years. Made using traditional methods including direct pressing and maturation on fine lees, Tradition expresses the exotic fruity nuances and mineral richness of the terres blanches terroir — the distinctive clayey-chalky and Kimmeridgian marl soils, a conglomerate of marine mud and tiny oyster shells, that give Pouilly-Fumé its unique character. Grapefruit, passion fruit, flint, and white flowers — a Pouilly-Fumé of genuine distinction and elegance.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Bright, luminous pale gold with green reflections — the fresh, vibrant colour of a 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the terres blanches soils of Pouilly-Fumé, with the clarity and brilliance that cold-settling, temperature-controlled fermentation, and fine lees maturation deliver.

Aroma

Exotic and expressive — passion fruit, grapefruit, lychee, and mango lead, with citrus adding freshness and lift. Smoky flint stone and mineral notes reflect the terres blanches terroir with remarkable clarity, whilst white flowers, acacia, and blackcurrant bud add a delicate floral dimension.

Palate

Fresh, vibrant, and beautifully balanced — the exotic fruit character of grapefruit, passion fruit, and citrus carries through a palate of genuine elegance and mineral depth. Fine lees maturation adds texture and complexity, with the distinctive smoky, mineral character of Pouilly-Fumé present throughout. A harmonious, lingering finish.

Pairs With

An ideal aperitif and a wonderful match for shellfish, oysters, grilled or sauced fish, white meats, roasted poultry, and fresh goat’s cheese — a versatile, elegant Pouilly-Fumé equally at home at the aperitif hour and at the dinner table.

Winemaking Notes

After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and immediately pressed. The must is cold-settled for 24 hours before vinification in thermo-regulated tanks, maintaining alcoholic fermentation at 18–20°C to extract maximum aromatic expression. The wine is then matured on fine lees until racking, fined with bentonite, and lightly filtered before bottling — a traditional approach that preserves the freshness, fruit character, and mineral complexity of the terres blanches terroir.

Vintage Conditions

The Tradition is sourced from 16 hectares of vines on the dominant south and south-east facing slopes of the Loire, planted on clayey-chalky and Kimmeridgian marl terres blanches soils — a conglomerate of marine mud and tiny oyster shells that impart the distinctive mineral richness and smoky character that define Pouilly-Fumé. With an average vine age of 35 years, the 2024 vintage delivers the aromatic depth, exotic fruit character, and mineral complexity that the Dagueneau family’s meticulous viticulture consistently achieves.
