Kalleske Moppa Shiraz 2025 is a powerful, richly layered Barossa Valley red from the Kalleske family's estate vineyards in Moppa, north-west of Greenock. Predominantly Shiraz, with small additions of Petit Verdot and Viognier, this expressive wine brings together concentrated dark fruit, fragrant florals, chocolate and finely integrated oak in a generous yet beautifully structured style.
The warm, dry 2025 growing season produced an exceptionally early harvest, delivering intensely flavoured fruit from more than twelve vineyard sites across the Kalleske estate. Wild fermentation and fourteen months in oak hogsheads have shaped a full-bodied wine with plush fruit, firm but polished tannins and the depth to reward cellaring.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep midnight-black with a brilliant purple rim.
Nose: Ripe plum, blueberry pie and dried fruit, layered with dark chocolate, smoky oak, floral perfume and a subtle hint of anise.
Palate: Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with plush dark fruit, chocolate and spice supported by firm, finely integrated tannins and complementary oak.
Finish: Long, powerful and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, subtle spice and polished tannin structure.
Winemaking & Maturation
The 2025 Moppa Shiraz comprises 96% Shiraz, 2% Petit Verdot and 2% Viognier, sourced from more than twelve vineyard sites on the Kalleske estate. Shiraz was harvested in small batches between 18 February and 12 March, with one parcel co-fermented on Viognier skins to enhance aromatic complexity. The Petit Verdot was harvested on 21 March. Wild fermentation took place in open-top fermenters, followed by seven to fourteen days on skins and traditional pressing. The wine matured for fourteen months in oak hogsheads, including approximately 20% new French, American, Hungarian and Romanian oak, with seasoned barrels making up the balance.
