Pikes The Assemblage brings together Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre in a generous, fruit-driven Clare Valley red with a distinctly savoury side.
The 2024 release opens with cherry, raspberry and blackberry, followed by ripe plum, a touch of chocolate and hints of liquorice. There's a lovely balance between the bright red fruit of Grenache, the darker richness of Shiraz and the herbal, peppery character of Mourvèdre.
Medium-bodied with supple, cocoa-like tannins, it's a red that delivers plenty of flavour without feeling heavy. The fresh fruit and savoury finish make it particularly appealing alongside food, although it's equally comfortable as an easy-going glass of red.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Medium ruby red.
Nose: Cherry, raspberry and blackberry, with milk chocolate, liquorice and a hint of spice.
Palate: Juicy red berries lead into plum and blackcurrant, supported by smooth, fine-grained tannins and subtle cocoa notes.
Finish: Softly savoury, with lingering red fruit, sage and pepper.

The Assemblage is well suited to dishes that bring a little richness and savoury flavour without overwhelming the wine. Try it with lamb koftas, grilled sausages, wood-fired pizza or slow-cooked beef.
It's also a good match for mushroom dishes, particularly mushroom and thyme pizza or a hearty mushroom pasta. The wine's soft tannins and fruit make it versatile enough for a relaxed barbecue or a shared meal.
Serving Suggestions
Serve around 15–17°C. In warmer weather, a short spell in the fridge before opening will help keep the fruit fresh and the wine balanced.

The Assemblage is Pikes' Clare Valley blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre, three varieties that contribute different qualities to the finished wine.
Grenache brings red fruit and aromatic lift, Shiraz adds darker fruit and mid-palate richness, while Mourvèdre contributes savoury spice and structure.
The 2024 release is medium-bodied and fruit-forward, with a dry finish and gentle tannins that make it approachable in its youth.
The Producer
Pikes Wines is a family-owned Clare Valley producer established in 1984, with its vineyards and winery in the Polish Hill River area.
Although widely recognised for Riesling, Pikes also has a strong history of producing Clare Valley reds. The Assemblage reflects that broader approach, bringing together complementary varieties in a wine that balances fruit, texture and savoury character.
