Monkey Shoulder Batch 27 is a blended malt Scotch whisky crafted by Malt Master David Stewart at William Grant & Sons — a marriage of 27 casks from Kininvie, Glenfiddich, and Balvenie distilleries, represented by the three monkeys on the bottle. Marmalade, cocoa, and malt on the nose with vanilla, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and a hint of aniseed; creamy on the palate with berry fruit, toasted barley, butterscotch, manuka honey, hot-buttered toast, and dried apricot; finishing with spicy oak and a hint of peppermint. A versatile, flavour-forward blended malt equally at home neat or in cocktails.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Warm amber gold with a rich, inviting clarity — the characteristic colour of a well-crafted blended malt from three of Speyside’s most celebrated distilleries.

Aroma

Immediately inviting — marmalade, cocoa, and malt lead with warmth and depth, layered with vanilla, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and a hint of aniseed. A complex, approachable nose of genuine blended malt character and Speyside distinction.

Palate

Creamy and generous — berry fruit and toasted barley carry through with butterscotch, manuka honey, hot-buttered toast, and dried apricot developing with genuine complexity. Moderate in length with spicy oak and a hint of peppermint on the finish.

Pairs With

Monkey Shoulder Batch 27 pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, shortbread, smoked meats, and aged cheeses — equally superb neat, over ice, or as the base for a classic Whisky Sour, Old Fashioned, or Rob Roy.

Production Notes

A blended malt crafted from 27 carefully selected casks across Kininvie, Glenfiddich, and Balvenie distilleries — three of Speyside’s most celebrated single malt producers, all under the William Grant & Sons family. Produced by Malt Master David Stewart.

Producer History

Monkey Shoulder takes its name from the affliction suffered by maltmen in the distillery — the repetitive strain of turning malting barley by hand during long shifts. Though the process has since been mechanised, the name honours the passion and hard work of those who came before. The bottle’s three monkeys represent the three distilleries — Kininvie, Glenfiddich, and Balvenie — whose spirit comes together in every batch.
