Meletti Amaro is an authentic Italian bitter liqueur crafted by the Silvio Meletti Company of Ascoli Piceno, Le Marche — a fifth-generation family distillery with roots stretching back to 1870. Produced to the same exacting standards and artisanal techniques that have defined the Meletti name for over 150 years, this Amaro delivers the strong, intense character of a classic Italian bitter, beautifully balanced in both perfume and palate. A digestivo of genuine depth and tradition, ideal for those who appreciate the authentic and uncompromising taste of a well-crafted amaro.

Appearance

Deep amber-brown with a rich, inviting clarity — the hallmark of a carefully crafted herbal bitter.

Aroma

Complex and aromatic, with a layered bouquet of bitter herbs, dried botanicals, and warm spice. Inviting and characterful, with the depth that comes from a recipe refined over generations.

Palate

Strong and intense, yet beautifully balanced — the authentic bitterness of a classic amaro, rounded by aromatic complexity and a satisfying, lingering finish. True to the Italian digestivo tradition in every sense.

Serving Suggestions

Best enjoyed neat at room temperature after a meal, on the rocks, or iced. Excellent as a coffee correction, and a superb cocktail ingredient — particularly in the M&M, Sharpie Mustache, and Sardinian Iced Tea.

Production Notes

Meletti Amaro is produced at the Silvio Meletti distillery in Ascoli Piceno using artisanal techniques and recipes elaborated by the founder over 150 years ago. The production process — from the transformation of raw botanical materials through to ageing — has remained entirely unchanged, preserving the handcrafted approach that defines every Meletti expression. Modern bottling technology is employed without compromise to the traditional recipe or production method.

Producer History

The Silvio Meletti Company was founded in 1870 in Ascoli Piceno, Le Marche, by Silvio Meletti — a self-taught distiller who learned the craft from his mother and went on to build one of Italy’s most celebrated liqueur houses. Drawing on 18th-century French distillation treatises, Silvio perfected recipes and techniques that remain in use to this day. His ambition took Meletti to the world stage, earning international recognition at exhibitions across Europe — including gold medals in Ostend, Turin, Athens, and Brussels, and a Grand Prix in Turin, Ghent, and Milan — culminating in the coveted royal patent of ‘Supplier of the Royal House’ granted by King Umberto I, and Silvio’s appointment as the first Knight of Labour of Ascoli Piceno in 1918.

In 1903, Silvio transformed the Regie Poste building on Ascoli’s Piazza del Popolo into the legendary Caffè Meletti — one of the finest Liberty-style buildings in Italy and a cultural landmark of the city to this day. The company passed through the stewardship of Aldo Meletti, then his wife Annamaria — who kept the business alive through difficult years — before Silviano Meletti led the company from the 1950s through to 2005. Today, the Meletti family remains the sole owner of the company, now in its fifth generation, continuing to produce spirits of exceptional quality and authenticity for a global market.
