Longrow Peated Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the heavily peated expression from Springbank Distillery — one of Scotland’s most storied and independently minded distilleries, based in Campbeltown, the once-proclaimed whisky capital of the world. First distilled in 1973 as an experiment to prove that an Islay-style single malt could be produced on the mainland, Longrow has become a whisky of genuine cult status: creamy and rich on the nose, extremely well balanced on the palate, and with a gentle, lingering smoke that travels through the senses like smoke billowing from a kiln.

Appearance

Deep, warm amber — the rich colour of a heavily peated Campbeltown single malt matured with exceptional care and patience.

Aroma

Very creamy and inviting — vanilla custard and toasted marshmallows lead, with herbs and rich fruits adding complexity and depth. The peat smoke is present but beautifully integrated, adding intrigue without overwhelming the generous and expressive nose.

Palate

Extremely well balanced, with the richness and creaminess of the nose carrying through to a palate of genuine depth and harmony. The smoke builds progressively and lingers on the finish with a persistence and elegance that rewards every sip.

Finish

Gentle smoke lingers long and satisfyingly — a finish that travels through the senses like smoke billowing from a kiln, and one that invites quiet contemplation and another dram.

Pairs With

Smoked salmon, oysters, aged hard cheeses, dark chocolate, and charcuterie. A whisky that deserves an unhurried evening and the company of those who appreciate the real thing.

Production Notes

Longrow is produced at Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown using 100% heavily peated malt — a production method that sets it apart from Springbank’s lightly peated house style and delivers the Islay-style smokiness that was the original ambition of the 1973 experiment. Unlike any other distillery in Scotland, 100% of the whisky-making process at Springbank is carried out on a single site — from malting to bottling — giving the distillery unrivalled control over the quality and character of every expression it produces. Longrow Peated is available alongside the Red and 18 Year Old bottlings as part of the Longrow range.

Producer History

Springbank Distillery was established in 1828 on the site of Archibald Mitchell’s illicit still in Campbeltown — a town that was once the whisky capital of the world, home to over thirty distilleries at its peak. Today, Springbank is one of only three distilleries remaining in Campbeltown, and it is still owned and managed by the Mitchell family — now in its fifth generation, under the chairmanship of Hedley G. Wright, Archibald Mitchell’s great-great-grandson. The traditional production methods established by the distillery’s founders are still applied today, and Springbank’s whisky is widely regarded as the most handmade in Scotland. Longrow was first distilled in 1973 as a personal experiment by the chairman — a determination to prove that a heavily peated, Islay-style single malt could be produced in Campbeltown. It succeeded, and the rest is history.
