Hoddles Creek Wickhams Road Pinot Gris 2024 is a new addition to the Wickhams Road portfolio — harvested from Cheshunt in the King Valley, an ideal climate for Pinot Gris, and crafted with around 8 hours of skin contact before pressing, giving the wine its characteristic slightly pinkish hue and gentle textural complexity. Fermented in older barriques.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Pale with a slightly pinkish hue — the distinctive, characterful colour of a Pinot Gris crafted with 8 hours of skin contact, with the delicate blush that sets Wickhams Road Pinot Gris apart from the conventional style.

Aroma

Fresh, aromatic, and gently textural — the characteristic bouquet of a King Valley Pinot Gris from Cheshunt, with the subtle complexity that skin contact and fermentation in older barriques deliver.

Palate

Textural and fresh with gentle complexity — the skin contact adding body and interest without weight, and the older barrique fermentation building subtle depth. Drink well now, with a few years in the cellar to develop further.

Pairs With

Grilled white fish, pork belly, Asian-spiced dishes, soft cheeses, and charcuterie. A versatile and food-friendly style that rewards the table as much as the glass.

Finish

Fresh, clean, and gently textural — the King Valley fruit and skin contact character fading with the subtle complexity that older barrique fermentation delivers.

Producer History

Hoddles Creek Estate was established in 1997 when the D’Anna family decided to plant a vineyard on a property the family has held since 1960. Steeply sloping blocks on Gembrook Road adjacent to Hoddles Creek prohibit mechanical harvesting — all vines are hand pruned and hand harvested. The 300-tonne winery, constructed for the 2003 vintage, features a barrel store located three metres underground. The estate is planted with 10ha of Pinot Noir (five clones), 6ha of Chardonnay, 1.5ha of Pinot Gris, and 1ha each of Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
