Tasting Notes

Appearance

Hentley Farm Shiraz 2024 Barossa Valley displays saturated, vibrant colour with deep intensity, reflecting the quality of fruit from the Seppeltsfield Vineyard. Set amongst the rolling hills on the banks of Greenock Creek, the estate's red clay loam topsoil overlying shattered limestone, salt and pepper siltstone, and bluestone subsoils naturally produces Shiraz of exceptional depth and character.

Aroma

The nose reveals enticing aromas of plum and mulberry that create an inviting aromatic profile. Notes of sage add herbal complexity, whilst blueberry provides fresh fruit lift and vibrancy. Bold flavours of blackberry and liquorice emerge, with hints of dark chocolate and cigar box adding depth in the background. This sophisticated bouquet reflects the 2024 vintage's compressed timeline and fast late-ripening curve, with warm days and cool nights producing powerful wines of exceptional intensity.

Palate

On the palate, rich fruit flavours take the lead, with plum, mulberry, and blueberry combining beautifully. Notes of chocolate and vanilla add complexity, the result of 15 months' maturation in seasoned French oak. The wine displays fine-grained tannins that are soft and pretty, providing great balance throughout. Skin maceration ranging from 7-60 days extracts optimal depth of flavour, whilst natural malolactic fermentation adds textural complexity. The tannin structure is impressive, and the persistence is characteristic of the Hentley Farm Seppeltsfield Vineyard estate, showcasing the complexity, consistency, and intense depth that define this exceptional site.
