Tasting Notes

Appearance

Blue Pyrenees Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 displays a glowing, brilliant deep blood-plum purple colour with exceptional depth and clarity. The wine's youthful, vibrant hue reflects the quality of fruit from selected blocks across the estate vineyard in the Victorian Pyrenees, a region renowned for producing long-lived Cabernet Sauvignon with distinctive cool-climate character.

Aroma

The nose reveals fresh black currant and blood plum aromas that create an inviting aromatic profile. Lifted violet florals add elegance and complexity, whilst just a hint of cedar oak and regional mint linger in the background. This sophisticated bouquet showcases the hallmark characters of Pyrenees Cabernet Sauvignon—cassis, chocolate, and fresh regional mint—reflecting the cool-climate site and meticulous winemaking that defines Blue Pyrenees Estate.

Palate

On the palate, the youthful and fresh dark fruit and floral notes from the nose flow through seamlessly. Vibrant and tightly coiled cassis combines with crushed violets, whilst a hint of river mint and fresh bay add distinctive regional character. These flavours are elegantly framed and complemented by barely discernible yet stylish French oak, the result of 9 months' maturation in new and seasoned French oak barriques and hogsheads. Ultra-fine grain tannins on the finish provide structure and length. An exercise in elegance and restraint, this release captures the finesse and power of great Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the right cool-climate site.

Pairs With

This elegant Victorian Cabernet pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, beef fillet, venison, aged cheddar, mushroom dishes, and hearty red meat preparations.

Winery & Vintage Info

Vintage Conditions

The 2024 vintage in Victoria's Pyrenees region presented exceptional conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon production, allowing the estate vineyards to produce fruit of outstanding quality and distinctive cool-climate character. Blue Pyrenees Estate, established in 1963 by the French company Remy Martin, was amongst the modern Australian wine industry's first ventures into cool-climate viticulture, and the 2024 vintage exemplified the region's reputation for consistently producing Cabernet Sauvignon displaying complexity and definitive regional character. The cool-climate site provided ideal conditions for the development of the wine's hallmark cassis, chocolate, and fresh regional mint characters, whilst allowing the grapes to retain natural acidity and develop the lifted violet florals that define this elegant release. Select parcels from across the estate vineyard were carefully monitored throughout the growing season, ensuring optimal phenolic ripeness and the vibrant, youthful character that distinguishes this wine.

Winemaking Notes

Today, Blue Pyrenees is 100 per cent Australian owned and is led by Chief Winemaker Andrew Koerner, who is committed to making authentic, world-class quality wines from estate-grown fruit. The Blue Pyrenees Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 was assembled from selected blocks across the estate vineyard and fermented on skins for 10-15 days in stainless steel fermenters, allowing for careful extraction and temperature control. The wine was then matured for 9 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques and hogsheads before assemblage and bottling, with the stylish French oak providing barely discernible yet elegant support to the vibrant fruit. An exercise in elegance and restraint, this release captures the finesse and power of great Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the right place and in the right cool-climate site, showcasing ultra-fine grain tannins and the distinctive regional mint character that has made Pyrenees Cabernet Sauvignon renowned amongst Australian wine enthusiasts.
