Tasting Notes

Appearance

Montegrande Asolo Prosecco DOCG displays a pale straw yellow colour with brilliant clarity and fine, persistent bubbles. The delicate perlage rises continuously in elegant streams, reflecting the quality craftsmanship of this family-run estate. Produced from 30 hectares of vineyards rooted in a precious patchwork of soil where effusive volcanic rocks alternate with those of marine origin, the wine's appearance speaks to the unique terroir of the Colli Euganei.

Aroma

The nose reveals enticing aromas of yellow fruits and green apple that create an inviting aromatic profile. Citrus notes add brightness and lift, whilst delicate floral hints provide elegance and complexity. Subtle herbal nuances emerge, showcasing the fresh, fruity character developed through the Charmat method of tank fermentation. The aromatic intensity reflects the care taken by the winery ensuring every bottle is the fruit of their work, with everything passing through their generations of winemaking tradition.

Winery & Vintage Info

Vintage Conditions

The Montegrande estate rests on a hill 200 metres above sea level in the Asolo hills, part of the esteemed Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG region in Veneto, Italy. The Colli Euganei are the offspring of fire and water, formed by a succession of submarine volcanic eruptions, creating a unique terroir where the vineyards are rooted in a precious patchwork of soil. Effusive volcanic rocks alternate with those of marine origin, providing exceptional drainage and mineral complexity that defines the character of Montegrande Asolo Prosecco DOCG. The estate's 30 hectares of vineyards, which for the most part surround the area around the winery, benefit from this distinctive geological heritage. The Asolo region is characterised by a favourable climate that allows the primarily Glera grapes, with potential small additions of other local varieties like Bianchetta Trevigiana, to develop the crisp, fruity profile with hints of green apple, citrus, and flowers that distinguish this quality Italian sparkling wine from the designated high-quality zone for Prosecco.

Winemaking Notes

Montegrande Asolo Prosecco DOCG is crafted by the Cristofanon familyβ€”Raffaele, Paola, and their right-hand man Gabriele, now joined by Paola's sons Andrea and Matteoβ€”who have been growing grapes and producing wine for over four generations in the small village of Rovolon. Every bottle is the fruit of their work, with everything passing through their hands, embodying the forthrightness and special vision transmitted by Luigi Cristofanon. The wine is produced using the Charmat (or Martinotti) method, involving tank fermentation that preserves the fresh, fruity aromas of yellow fruits, citrus, and herbs. This technique ensures the wine displays fine, persistent bubbles and the refreshing mineral finish derived from the volcanic and marine soils. Often crafted in an Extra Dry style, the wine offers a beautiful balance of sweetness and acidity with citrus and floral notes, making it suitable for various courses. Best served chilled at 6-8Β°C, this Prosecco showcases excellent value and elegance, perfectly suited as an aperitif or for pairing with light dishes.
