Discover the rich, bold flavours of Domaine A Merlot 2015 vintage from Tasmania. Bursting with blackcurrant and cassis, this robust wine also features notes of salinity, black olives, and tobacco leaf, complemented by a spiced cedar character. Perfect to enjoy now or cellar for later. Cork enclosure.

"Stoney Vineyard, planted from 1991; hand picked; matured 2 years in 50% new French oak barriques. The essence of merlot. A rich bouquet of deep cassis, blackcurrant and a lifted air of freshly cut truffles entices. The palate holds its ripeness with confidence, driven by firm, fine tannin endurance and well-harmonised acid poise. A touch of oxidation on the close suggests it's now hit its prime, in spite of a decade of endurance still in those tannins. Two bottles were identical. Screw caps may well have aided its cause."

Winery & Vintage Info

Domaine A was founded on a grand plan โ€“ to produce big Bordeaux-inspired reds at the end of the earth and honour old world ideals in the new world. After much success, their wine receives acclaim as some of the countryโ€™s finest, even rivalling the best of Bordeaux.

Their approach to winemaking is unyielding and without compromise. If the fruit isnโ€™t perfect, the wine doesnโ€™t get made. In this age of instant gratification they only release wines at their best. Vines are hand-plucked, hand-tied and hand-picked during the cool days of autumn. Wines are pressed down by hand.

Tasmania is a cool-climate wine country. Ancient soil and champagne air. A temperate maritime climate and long hours of sunshine, even over the long cool season. Slow-ripening fruit and aromatic varieties brought forth from their impeccably tended Stoney Vineyard โ€” the oldest in the historic Coal River Valley in southern Tasmania. Each vintage is a constant reflection of this extraordinary, elemental terroir: climate and soil, vineyard and method, founded on 200-million-year-old Jurassic dolerite. These wines have distinct personalities, not constrained by region or varietal typicity.
