Pikes Luccio Fiano 2026 is the largest Fiano release to date from this pioneering Clare Valley family winery — sourced from the Polish Hill River Estate and a Southern Watervale vineyard, drawing on an increasing number of Clare Valley growers who share Pikes’ conviction that Fiano has a strong future in the region. Pale straw with brilliant green hues; bursting with fresh melon, green apple, lime, tropical fruit, and delicate citrus blossom on the nose; generous and rounded on the palate with yellow nectarine, green pear, mandarin, and preserved citrus, a soft creamy texture, and a magnificent acid line providing freshness, length, and definition.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Pale straw with brilliant green hues — the fresh, vibrant colour of a Clare Valley Fiano of genuine varietal purity and site expression from Pikes’ Polish Hill River Estate.

Aroma

Bursting with freshness — melon, green apple, lime, and tropical fruit lead with vibrancy and lift, with delicate white florals and citrus blossom adding elegance and aromatic definition. A nose of genuine Clare Valley Fiano character and varietal excitement.

Palate

Generous and rounded, yet precisely defined — yellow nectarine and green pear are joined by mandarin and preserved citrus, with a soft, creamy texture and gentle pithy grip. A magnificent acid line provides freshness, length, and definition throughout.

Winemaking Notes

Sourced from Pikes’ own Polish Hill River Estate and a Southern Watervale vineyard, with fruit from an increasing number of Clare Valley growers reflecting the region’s growing confidence in Fiano. 100% Fiano. 12% ABV. RS 1.5 g/L. pH 3.10. TA 7.47 g/L. Clare Valley, 2026.

Vintage Conditions

The 2026 season began with cold conditions delaying budburst by two weeks, followed by a severe frost on 13 November at the Polish Hill River Estate — unaffected vines remained healthy and balanced. Warm January conditions drove steady ripening, though vintage began 16 days later than 2025. Four rainfall events interrupted Riesling harvest, yet healthy vines and low disease pressure kept fruit quality outstanding — exceptional acidity, purity, and flavour concentration throughout. Despite the challenges, 2026 has produced wines of exceptional balance and true varietal and site expression.

Producer History

Pikes Wines is a family-founded winery established in 1984 when the Pike family began crafting wine together in Polish Hill River, Clare Valley. Their unique site features tough acidic soils over ancient Kadlunga Slate — 650 million years old — producing wines of elegance and approachability shaped by the land, years of viticultural experience, and a hands-off winemaking style. Pikes sees Fiano as having a strong future in the Clare Valley, with the variety demonstrating great resilience across extreme vintage conditions.
