Aroma

The nose is enticing and deeply complex, with vanilla, oakwood, marzipan and dried fruits creating a sophisticated and layered aromatic profile. Production Notes

Delord Vieil Armagnac 1975 is produced at the family distillery in Lannepax, Bas-Armagnac, using Colombard, Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche grape varieties. Distillation — the most essential and fascinating stage in Armagnac production — takes place from the beginning of November through to the end of December, using the family’s treasured old Sier Armagnac alambics that produce less than 30 litres of eau-de-vie per hour. This slow, traditional distillation process is central to the exceptional quality and complexity of Delord’s Armagnac. The eau-de-vie is then aged in one of more than 700 oak barrels in Delord’s cellars, which protect and age Armagnac dating from the 20th century to the present day. Delord’s vintage Armagnac range is one of the most complete in existence, with vintages from 1900 to 2006 — only 33 vintage years unavailable. Bottles indicate a bottling date, as it is only age in wood that truly matters.

History

The 1975 vintage Armagnac from Delord represents a rare and extraordinary piece of French spirits heritage. Bas-Armagnac, situated in the Gascony region of south-west France, is the most prestigious of the three Armagnac appellations, renowned for producing eau-de-vie of exceptional finesse, complexity and aromatic depth. The region’s sandy soils — known as sables fauves — are ideally suited to the Colombard, Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche grape varieties that form the foundation of Delord’s Armagnac. Thanks to Delord’s extraordinary vision in storing exceptional Armagnacs for such extended periods, the 1975 vintage has had five decades to develop its remarkable complexity of vanilla, oakwood, marzipan, dried fruits, cinnamon and toasted bread — a living testament to the patience, expertise and heritage of the Delord family and the unique terroir of Bas-Armagnac.
