Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red 2022 is a benchmark expression of the appellation’s most celebrated estate — the largest single contiguous vineyard in Châteauneuf-du-Pape at 100 hectares, farmed by the same family since Henri Plantin’s visionary acquisition in 1923. A blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Mourvèdre with Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin, and Vaccarèse, drawn from three exceptional terroirs — the large rolled pebbles of the Mont-Redon plateau, Urgonian limestone, and fine sandy soils — and matured for 18 months with approximately 50% in barrel and 50% in vat. Rich, complex, and built for the cellar, with a first plenitude between the 5th and 8th year and the capacity to age considerably longer.
Tasting Notes
Appearance
Deep, concentrated ruby-red — the rich, vibrant colour of a Châteauneuf-du-Pape drawn from three exceptional terroirs and matured for 18 months, with the depth and intensity that Mont-Redon’s century-old goblet-pruned vines and meticulous optical sorting deliver.
Aroma
Rich and complex — black fruit dominates, with a subtle roasted character and the garrigue, spice, and earthy depth that the Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Mourvèdre blend from the Mont-Redon plateau delivers. The three terroirs — rolled pebbles, Urgonian limestone, and fine sands — each contribute their own distinct dimension to the aromatic profile.
Palate
Full-bodied and structured — the optimal tannin and colour extraction from 15 to 20 days of punching-down is evident in a palate of genuine depth and harmony. Black fruit, spice, and a subtle roasted character carry through a long, complex finish. Approachable from the second year after bottling, with a first plenitude between the 5th and 8th year.
Pairs With
Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red 2022 pairs ideally with red meats in sauce, game, and aged cow’s milk cheeses — equally magnificent alongside slow-braised lamb, wild boar, and rich Provençal dishes.

Winemaking Notes
Following complete destemming, extraction is achieved by punching-down for 15 to 20 days to obtain optimal tannin and colour from the skins. After malolactic fermentation in vat, a second selection is performed — only the batches with the most depth and harmony are retained for maturation, approximately 50% in barrel and 50% in vat. After one year of ageing, a final selection determines the blend. Bottling occurs approximately 18 months after harvest, followed by a minimum of 4 to 6 months of bottle rest in the cellars before release. Harvest is always manual, with precise bunch-by-bunch sorting in the vineyard supplemented by optical sorting tables for grape-by-grape precision.
Vintage Conditions
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation sits on the left bank of the Rhône between Orange and Avignon, with a Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers punctuated by occasional thunderstorms. The Mistral wind blows consistently year-round, ensuring excellent sanitary conditions in the vineyard. Mont-Redon’s three terroirs — the large rolled pebbles of the plateau, Urgonian limestone, and fine sandy soils — each contribute distinct complexity and character to the blend, with only the very best parcels from each terroir selected to ensure the consistency and complexity of the Mont-Redon style.
Producer History
Mont-Redon takes its name from the Roman Montem Rotundum — the “round mountain” — a locality farmed for wine since Antiquity. In 1923, Henri Plantin acquired the estate and undertook the titanic work of establishing vines on the plateau, long before the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation was formally created in 1936. His vision was extraordinary: grouping disparate plots around the estate and recognising the exceptional nature of the three terroirs — rolled pebbles, Urgonian limestone, and fine sands — that would define Mont-Redon’s identity. Successive generations extended the estate to 100 contiguous hectares, making it the largest single estate in the appellation. Traditional goblet pruning, practised from generation to generation, has shaped the vines for a century — the oldest approaching 100 years of age. Today, Château Mont-Redon is owned by the Plantin family heirs, the Abeille-Fabre family, and is run by the 4th generation. Driven by the same entrepreneurial spirit as their ancestors, the family has created new wines — including the single-estate cuvée Le Plateau de Mont-Redon — and expanded into other great terroirs of the region: Domaine de l’Oratoire Saint-Martin in Cairanne (acquired 2020), Domaine du Joncier in Lirac (2022), and Domaine Les Amouriers in Vacqueyras (2024), all certified organic or biodynamic. Resolutely turned towards the future and aware of their responsibility in regard to climate change, the family strives for excellence — cultivating their land and their singularity to transmit both to future generations.
