Beresford wines capture the elegance, powerful complexity, and unique essence of McLaren Vale — resulting in wines of great balance and depth that speak eloquently of one of Australia’s most celebrated red wine regions. The Beresford McLaren Vale Shiraz 2024 is a beautiful example of this philosophy, with vibrant aromas of red fruits evolving into darker blue fruits, complemented by subtle oak complexity. Fresh, bright, and expressive on the palate, with a generous burst of fruit through the mid-palate, fine-knit tannins providing structure, and a long, balanced finish. Vegan friendly.

Winemaking Notes

Grapes are picked on both colour and flavour development, then gently crushed and fermented for 7–10 days at around 20°C. Small open-top fermenters are used with hand pumping over and rack and return to ensure optimum extraction of tannins and colour. Following fermentation, the wine is softly pressed into French and American oak where it undergoes natural malolactic fermentation. No animal products are used for fining or filtration — Vegan Friendly. Alcohol: 14% | Sugar: 3.7 g/L | pH: 3.50 | Acidity: 7.0 g/L.

Vintage Conditions

McLaren Vale experienced average winter rainfall and a mild winter in 2024, with early spring drier than normal and higher-than-average daytime temperatures combined with colder-than-average nights — conditions that led to frost damage in some low-lying vineyards and delayed budburst, though low disease pressure was a positive outcome. From mid-November, rain and cool to mild temperatures created challenging conditions, compounded by a high wind event and an unusual day where some vineyard temperatures reached 40°C. Extended flowering resulted from cooler-than-normal temperatures, with a couple of high rainfall events at the end of November. Summer was the wettest since 2002, with rainfall through December and into January, before conditions eased. From late January, temperatures climbed and a short, compacted veraison followed. Hot, dry conditions resulted in a compacted vintage — whites were picked in the first two weeks, with the majority of reds harvested before an early Easter and late-ripening varieties picked post-Easter.
