Collection: Heathcote Estate | Heathcote

Heathcote Estate is one of Australia's most precisely defined single vineyard Shiraz producers β€” a Kirby family estate planted in 1999 on Drummond's Lane, Heathcote, with a single objective: to produce one wine from one site. The vineyard borders Jasper Hill's Emily's Paddock on 500-million-year-old Cambrian soil β€” the ancient red earth that defines the heart of the Heathcote region and gives the wine its distinctive mineral character and exceptional concentration.

Why Heathcote Estate Matters

Few Australian wineries are as focused as Heathcote Estate:

One place. One vineyard. One variety. One wine.

That concentration of purpose β€” rare in Australian wine β€” produces a Shiraz of exceptional site expression. The vineyard received full organic certification (NASAA NCO3056ML1) in 2021 after a five-year conversion process, making it one of the few certified organic single vineyard Shiraz estates in Heathcote. Led by winemaker Tom Carson, the estate is a sister property of Yabby Lake Vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula, both owned and operated by the Kirby family.

The 2023 vintage is the most decorated release to date β€” winning Wine of Show at the 2025 Heathcote Wine Show, Trophy Best Shiraz at the 2025 National Wine Show, and receiving 97 points from Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot) and 96 points from Jeni Port (James Halliday Wine Companion).

The Vineyard

Planted in 1999 on Drummond's Lane, Heathcote. North-facing, slightly undulating country on 500-million-year-old Cambrian soil β€” rich red-brown topsoil averaging 15cm over clay, small rocks, quartz, and rubble subsoil. Hand pruned through winter, hand picked at harvest. Predominantly Shiraz with one block of Nebbiolo. Five individual blocks handled separately in the winery, creating multiple unique batches each vintage. Fermented in traditional open fermenters with 20% whole bunch inclusion. Matured in 500L French oak puncheons.

Heathcote Estate & the Heathcote Region

Heathcote Estate's winemaking philosophy is inseparable from its site. The Cambrian soil β€” among the oldest geological formations used for viticulture anywhere in the world β€” provides exceptional water retention, mineral complexity, and the distinctive red earth character that defines Heathcote Shiraz at its finest. The estate's location on Drummond's Lane, adjacent to Jasper Hill, places it at the epicentre of Heathcote's most celebrated single vineyard sites.
