History & Heritage
The story of Chivas Regal begins in 1801, when brothers James and John Chivas opened a grocery and wine merchant's shop on King Street in Aberdeen, Scotland. The shop quickly became celebrated for the quality of its provisions — supplying fine foods, wines, and spirits to the Scottish aristocracy and, eventually, to Queen Victoria herself, who granted the brothers a Royal Warrant in 1843. It was this association with royalty, luxury, and the very finest things that would define the Chivas brand for generations to come.
James Chivas was among the first merchants to recognise the potential of blending whiskies from different distilleries to create a more consistent, complex, and approachable spirit than any single malt could offer alone. By combining malt whiskies of different ages and characters with lighter grain whiskies, Chivas created a style of whisky that was smoother, richer, and more harmonious than anything that had come before — a revelation that would transform the Scotch whisky industry and establish blended Scotch as the dominant style in global markets.
In 1909, Chivas Brothers launched Chivas Regal 25 Year Old — the world's first luxury whisky — specifically for the American market, where the brand's reputation for quality and prestige had made it the whisky of choice for the country's elite. The brand's association with success, sophistication, and the good life has endured ever since, making Chivas Regal one of the most gifted and collected whiskies in the world. Today, Chivas Regal is owned by Pernod Ricard and produced at the Strathisla Distillery in Keith, Speyside — the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Scottish Highlands and the spiritual home of the Chivas blend.

Chivas Regal is a blended Scotch whisky, drawing on malt and grain whiskies from distilleries across Scotland, with Speyside at its heart.
