Tasting Notes

Appearance

This Clare Valley Shiraz displays a vibrant deep purple hue with excellent clarity and depth, indicating the wine's youth and concentration. The colour intensity reflects the quality fruit selection and careful winemaking.

Aroma

The nose reveals enticing aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant, and black plums, beautifully integrated with spice oak notes and dark chocolate from 24 months' maturation in American and French oak barrels. A parcel from the iconic Schaefer vineyard adds a fresh lift and perfumed character unique to this exceptional site.

Palate

Full-bodied yet refined, the palate delivers soft, ripe tannins with excellent concentration of flavours and impressive length. The wine harmonises rich dark fruit with oak-derived spice and chocolate notes, creating a balanced, approachable style with power and finesse. This graceful Clare Shiraz is both enjoyable now and worthy of cellaring for up to 10 years.

Pairs With

This Clare Valley Shiraz makes an excellent accompaniment to grilled steak, slow-cooked lamb shanks, beef Wellington, and other red meat dishes, where its structure and fruit intensity complement rich, savoury flavours beautifully.

Winemaking Notes

The components of this blend were harvested at the peak of their ripeness and fermented on skins to dryness for 8–10 days before pressing. Some of the pressings were blended back with the free-run for added structure and mouthfeel. The individual batches spent 24 months in a combination of American and French oak barrels before blending, fining, and bottling.

Vintage Conditions

The 2022 vintage followed one of the most steady and smooth ripening seasons experienced in a number of years, providing ideal conditions for developing concentrated flavours whilst maintaining excellent natural acidity and balance.
