Winemaking Notes

The best Shiraz blocks of the 2019 vintage were hand-selected and ripened steadily to perfect maturity. Components of the final blend were fermented to dryness on skins for 14 days before pressing, with a portion of pressings returned to the wine for added structure and improved ageing potential. Matured for 24 months in a mixture of new American and French oak hogsheads before blending, fining, and bottling. Further aged in bottle prior to release.

Vintage Conditions

The 2019 vintage in Clare Valley was warm, dry, and very compacted with little rainfall throughout the maturation period. Low winter rainfall and a warm temperate summer restricted yields and produced crops with small berries — concentrating flavour and colour to exceptional levels. The result is a Shiraz of outstanding depth, structure, and age-worthy complexity, with the firm tannins and persistent fruit length that define Aberfeldy’s reputation as the “Grange” of the Clare Valley.
